Her voice trembled. I did not answer and only stared at her coldly. This woman had shared a bed with me for three years, yet she had never known my true identity. Rather, she had never truly cared who I was. In her eyes, I was just her husband whom she could humiliate at will. "Captain, say the word and we'll deal with these two scumbags immediately!" Quentin volunteered. Phillip's face turned ghastly pale as his body began to tremble. He realized the gravity of the situation.

They are so tense that they don't even want to think about it. Phil breaks into a cold sweat. He would not have believed Declan is this powerful if he hadn't seen it with his own eyes! His heart leaps into his stomach. That young man is too terrifying! They are too terrifying! The captain, however, is the most shocked of the Smiths and Phil! Although an expert, he had never met someone this powerful in his entire life! He has a dazed expression on his face as he stares at Declan, almost as if he wants to bore into his soul! His tongue is sour.

They curled at his sides like he was gripping back a storm. “Everything okay, Captain?” I added, keeping my voice even. He didn’t speak. Instead, he stepped forward. One step. Two. Three. Until there was no space left between us. I had to crane my neck to meet his eyes, and when I did—my breath hitched. They weren’t blue. Not anymore. They were glowing. Not like contacts. Not like tricks of the light. But glowing. Gold. Bright. Flickering like fire trapped in ice. And something behind them—a hunger, a voice, something not human—watched me.

"Together Captain." The game waited for us and we were ready to answer.

She always has a new gist whenever we talk. I pulled off my clothes and took a quick shower. Once I was done I tried to do my assignment, and when that didn't work cause I was a bit distracted by images of a certain captain, I turned on my laptop to read a book and when that didn't work either, I simply gave up and lied down to sleep. I’m the football captain but The dean rarely calls except it’s important. After dressing up in my jersey, I honored the dean call and the reason why he called was to inform me that the coach wouldn’t be coming so I have to take the team for the training section. “Why can’t she come. Is she okay?” Curiosity got the best of me and I asked without thinking. Shit! He sat with his eyes on the floor and the posture of someone who was genuinely not well, which was true enough that the rival captain didn’t need to interpret it. Another moment of silence. Then the captain stood and moved toward the door. He reached it and put his hand on the frame and stopped with his back to us. He turned his head slightly, not fully back, the way you turn when you have one more thing to say and you’re going to say it without making it a conversation. “I hope that would help on the ice,” he said. Then he left. The door closed and we sat with what had just happened for a moment before either of us reached the next thing.
