Teresa's POV Two weeks passed in a blur of coffee dates and casual lunches. Derek quickly became a constant presence in my life. The promise I made that I had no idea how to keep. And Timothy's face. The recognition and the questions I couldn't answer. Derek made it easier to forget. I felt a little guilty. I hadn't told Casey about us yet and that I didn’t actually invite him. I knew if Derek were here, he would talk over everyone and act like a big star. Thinking about it now, I realized I added more things to the list of why I hate him.

My throat went dry. “Liam! Bro, I missed you. How have you been?” Derick greeted him cheerfully. The man didn’t answer right away. His eyes didn’t leave mine. My pulse stuttered under the weight of his stare. Finally, he spoke. “I’ve been good, brother.” His voice was low, strained. He gave Derick a glance, but it was brief.
