Mi Amor
We rushed out of the lobby and up to the padlocked fence, where I pushed Javier up against the fence and kissed him again, both of us laughing and tickling each other.
“I have to open the lock, mi amor.” He pushed away from me and turned toward the gate.
“Javier?”
The voice was an older man’s, tinged with Spanish. We both looked out toward the street. “Señor Collazo,” Javier said.
What followed was a rapid-fire exchange in Spanish, too fast for me to follow much. I gathered that the man, bald with a thin mustache and goatee, was a contractor who worked with Javier, that the small, slender woman with him was his wife. But that was it.
