Charlie laughs and looks back at the already full sheet of paper. "Uh," Tristan peeps into the kitchen, "Are you guys going somewhere? Blurin has this 'we're going out look'." "Yes, we are. We've run out of groceries. We might be long so just whip yourself toast till we get back." "Oh," Tristan sighs and loosens his tie, "I'll just take a shower. Thanks." Charlie nods quickly before turning to Blurin who was staring at her intently, "Shall we?" At his nod, Charlie jogs to the door to put on her head warmer, mittens and flats before waving at the droopy doctor then walking out.

We open our doors to get out of the truck, and all the guys are surrounding my brother asking him more questions than I can even process. “Dude, I can’t believe you are leaving us.” “We are going to lose every game if you leave.” “You can’t leave man. “Where are you going again.” “We are still going to talk right.” My brother of course can answer every question that is thrown at him. Then of course, here comes the girls that Barrett keeps at a distant because he knew he couldn’t be in a relationship with them because it wouldn’t be long before we were moving again and he never wanted his first real relationship to end up long distance right after it starts.

I slumped back against the wood, the silence of the building starting to feel oppressive. To pass the time, I opened a game on my phone, my thumbs moving mindlessly across the screen while my brain stayed fixed on the door at the end of the hall. One by one, the remaining group leaders came back. The girl from Group 12 walked past me, wiping sweat from her forehead. Then the guy from Group 19. Finally, the leader from Group 7 emerged, gathered her things, and walked out with her friends.

A call from home came through. "Adam, dinner's ready. Could you pick up some yam on your way back?" "Sure, Mom." My steps grew lighter, my pace quickened, and I jogged into the subway station. It felt as if I could already smell the aroma of dinner waiting at home. After taking so many detours for over a decade, I finally reached the end of my dream path. Now… I truly had a home.
