At least the band had been cool.
“Hey,” a deep voice called me, “you okay there?”
I looked up from the grassy floor to see a huge man in a white shirt. A Beta, powerful and tall with long sandy hair and a beard.
“I’m fine thanks,” giving him a wave. “just hiding out that’s all.”
“Can I join you? I love the band but if I get any more beer spilled on me…” and gestured down to the amber stains on his pristine white shirt.
I laughed and offered him some of the space next to me behind the speakers. “I’m Beta Rhett,” he said, offering me his huge hand, his grasp coarse like sandpaper, “Kate Winters, new recruit and apparently the worst at the Dark Arts in history.”
