I caught my hand beneath her chin while the other beat gently against her back, over and over, until the coughing started to ease. “Easy, easy—breathe, McKenna. I've got you. Breathe,” I muttered, rubbing her back. I felt something warm spread against my palm as she coughed, but I was too focused on getting her through the fit and didn't think much of it.
