His voice was laced with an unwavering certainty, a chilling promise. Kael finished his drink, the ice clinking against the glass. “He’s a ghost in the system. No digital footprint, barely any social media. He’s good at disappearing.” “But not good enough,” Damon snarled, turning to face them, his eyes blazing. “He may have slipped through our fingers once, but he won’t again. He doesn’t understand the true nature of what he ignited in us. The depth of our… need.”

To shake her until she understood she could not leave me. And yet, beneath it all, the sickness of guilt festered. Because I knew the truth. I hadn’t protected her. I hadn’t stopped the council. I hadn’t— A roar ripped through the night, drowning my thoughts. The ground trembled. The trees shuddered. From the mist came a creature taller than the canopy itself, made of roots and bones, its eyes burning with green fire. A guardian spirit. Emerald swore under his breath. “We can’t fight that.”

“Actually yes. Although his, Andrew is his name?” “Correct.” I replied. “Although Andrew’s limited assessment of werecats is correct on a general level. It does not pertain to the ones I speak of. Your fourth and final Guardian is a werecat, and she is stopping me from retrieving the last piece needed.” “Why?” “I don’t know. I’m not here looking for war. Whatever battle Rana and Tyr have, that is theirs and theirs alone. Eventually Tyr will know of Rana’s awakening and whatever comes of that, comes. I will not be by his side, fighting that battle. I’m trying to right a lot of wrongs, most of the wrongs are not mine to right but I know how to get them done. I just want the artifact returned t

Xavier motioned for Jack to stand. A father stood up, looked at his daughter, beaming with pride. “Sweetheart. The Council is giving you an amazing opportunity. You can stay with us. Me, your brother, and sister.” Jack’s hand found hers and squeezed. “To help train future Guardians.. Given that you are human, we will have to take extra precautions to keep you safe and out of harm’s way. You’ll never be out in the field. Or...” Jack’s eyes welled with tears.

Since Kellan had his shirt on, I couldn’t see his mark. “Why would a Dragon mark change colors?” I asked Jade without glancing at her. “Do you mean Cyran’s mark?” “Yeah.” “I figured he would have told you. After we left the council, his mark changed. Since he went against the council, his Dragon became dormant. One of the members of the council has the ability to do it, so they can deal with unruly Dragons. Cyran knew the risk, but it was better than to let them have you.”

How dare she?..

Let’s argue. That city needs to be cleansed. No one can get into its gates without getting hacked to pieces by that evil menace you call a Guardian.” Lord Fuller protests. “Balance must be maintained and killing the guardian will only make everything worse. The ripple of that will not only affect your city but the other six cities as well. The Guardians all know and feel it when one dies. They become angry and more dangerous. The guardian then pulled out a Doom card, which made Vale take a step back at the sight of the card.
