Like I was a baby goat he was about to slaughter. His eyes were wide, unblinking and glassy with something deranged and hungry. It scared me more than the blood-crusted saw gripped tight in his other hand, its teeth glinting under the harsh fluorescent light. “Please… please… I’m sorry… I’m not—” The words tumbled out, frantic, but they were cut off when he threw his head back and laughed. It was a wet, tearing sound that ricocheted off the walls, filled the room, drowned everything else. He laughed so hard he doubled over, clutching his stomach, the sound manic and unhinged like the Joker tormenting Harley Quinn, except this wasn’t a performance.

He felt as though the door would break open and a horde of zombies would enter, killing them all. He tried his best to keep his focus on the screen, ignoring the muffled noise around him. However, when he heard a low growling beside him, he turned to look at Jade and he began screaming at the top of his lungs. Jade had somehow managed to make herself look like a zombie in the few minutes he was gone. She had plunged at him like she wanted to bite him when he looked at her and as he screamed, she couldn't help but laugh.

Muttering under his breath, he straightened himself and began doing the most exaggerated frog jumps I had ever seen. I burst out laughing—the hardest I had laughed. During that moment another idea took over my mind. “Oh, and make frog sounds.” Jace groaned but complied, croaking loudly as he jumped across the grass. Tears of laughter filled my eyes as I clutched my stomach, doubling over. When I finally waved a hand, signaling for him to stop, he stood up, catching his breath. “How does it feel, humiliating your king?” I wiped a tear from my eye. “Honestly? Pretty great.”

I glanced up from the papers I had been reading and watched as he folded his long limbs into the chair in front of me. He pulls a joint from behind his ear and lights it up taking a deep drag and then drops his head back to blow the smoke up in the air. His blonde hair was up in a bun tied at the back of his head. His piercing blue eyes come back down to look at me and he raises a pierced brow at me.

Since I had deliberately hidden my injured right hand inside my loose white coat, Megan didn't notice it was hurt at all. She strode up to me and, without a word, slapped me across the face. "Donovan, as a doctor, how could you let jealousy drive you to kill your own patient? You're not even fit to be called human!" I pressed my tongue against the inside of my stinging cheek, and out of the corner of my eye, I spotted someone from Megan's group already discreetly pulling out a camera. I chuckled inwardly. "What nonsense are you talking about? When did I ever kill my patient? Pierre's surgery—"

I said with stifled breath and he knocked my head. "What was that for?" I yelp, giving him a puppy face. "I'm not bingo stupid, I am Joker." He grins widely, trying to explain to me who Joker was, well I know Joker so he should stop stressing himself out cause I'm not gonna act like I know him. "What do you mean Joker?" I said, squeezing my face at him, "you look horrible, who's the girl that made you do this." He scowls at me and I tap his chest playfully, why is he looking so cute even with red and white paints destroying his face.

I couldn't care if his head cracked. “That hurt,” he whined as he robbed the spot, but I felt satisfied at my revenge. “You psycho Joker!” I said ready to hit him again when he grabbed my wrist. “Joker is a psycho already so your sentence is redundant. It's just like saying ‘you black charcoal'” he said and continued laughing. “What are you so insufferable?” I couldn't help but ask, “I feel like pulling my hair out just talking to you. Who knew you had this side of you too?”
