The color paled, then broke apart like smoke in wind.

But the active corruption was gone, shed like a dead skin. The balance had shifted. Not toward Silas’s darkness, but toward a painful, scab-picking truth. Silas staggered, clutching his marked hand. The dual-coloured mark on his palm seared, the black line fading, leaving only the livid, angry silver one. He stared at it, then at the now-silvery, scarred plant, his face a mask of betrayed fury. “No…” he breathed. “No, it’s mine… the corruption is the price of power… it’s the truth…”

That split second left me feeling as if I had been skinned, and I almost lost consciousness from the agony. It was worth rejoicing that the agony did not last that long, and I was soon calmed down by Dicken’s soft lips. They were no different from painkillers that swiftly relieved me from any suffering. Still, feeling as if my soul left my body, I buried my head over Dicken’s shoulder as I asked, “What was that, Dicken?” “Corrupted Yiki—in other words, a corrupted sapling. It had its eyes on you, Linda. The corrupted are always an extreme threat because they could show up at any time or space, and come in a million different forms after mutating.”

Death draws me towards it like we have been attached with an unbreakable string. Maybe it's just a superpower in which I get the last chance to save the person in front of me or maybe it’s a curse. Particularly a Crimson curse, as I like to call it. Through the years the number of deaths I have seen is greater than my age. You would think that death doesn't affect me anymore. You are right to think that because that is what I had thought until 5 days ago.

I'm talking about the other four. A mocking laugh bubbled through my chest. Does she actually think I didn't feel her drooling over that wolf? Julie just fucking stop being delusional for once.
