Damian whispered into my hair, voice low enough to stir my skin: “Vivian… don’t scare me like this again.” His hand tightened gently around mine. “Promise me.” I opened my mouth to respond, but my eyelids were already heavy, sleep tugging me under. Just before I drifted off, I whispered, “I promise.” But even half-asleep, one thought burned quietly in my mind. “Alpha Sullivan, my brother has one of the most elite warriors in his army. He could destroy an entire civilization if he wanted. He’s a very strong Lycan, capable of destroying mountains with his fists. You don’t want him as your enemy.” Damian nodded. “It’s true. I’ve fought with him and I lost my spine in the process. He ripped it out just yesterday like it was nothing and trust me it took a special drug to fix me back together again.” The man was now afraid of Sinclair as he should be. Even I was terrified of my brother yet this man pretended not to be. “What do you suggest I do?” He asked desperately in need of our help. “If he’s as dangerous as you say then I need help.”

I whispered. “What?” Damian asked. “Is that his sister?” I asked, dumbfounded, as the dad put a firm hand on Simon’s shoulder. Veronica was hugging the girl with a huge smile on her face. “He chose his best friend’s little sister as his mate?” Damian put into words. “I mean, you chose your dead brother’s mate as your own.” I shrugged. “Yeah, but my brother is dead. His friend is standing there looking like he is ready to murder him.” There was a sting of pain in Damian’s heart when he mentioned his brother.

His words turned into a wail as he dropped his resistance and fell his face into Aunt Carmen’s warmth and embrace. “Your Mum and Daddy will not return soon.” She sobbed. His little shrieking, teary voice piece through her heart as his lips brushed her ear, “Will Dan come and play with me?” “Your brother will only return when Mummy and Daddy decide.” She explained calmly. Damian was a smart-ass kid. He perceived that his world had come to an end. He has lived with that untold depth of wilderness in his heart, the pain of losing his heroes and that one person who never failed to remind him that big bro has your back.

But I’ll need your help.” On the other end, Daniel leaned back in his chair, a slow, calculating smile tugging at his lips. “Now that’s new. Big brother actually asking me for help? This must be serious.” He paused, enjoying the moment. “So, what’s the grand plan?” Damien’s eyes narrowed, his voice low and dangerous. “First, we find out who this mystery woman is. Then we make sure she never makes it to the altar.”!!

There's a flash of anger in Damien's eyes as he grins coldly. "Brandon, let her go or I'll chop off that arm and make you swallow every single piece." Brandon lets go of my arm reluctantly and steps away. To my surprise, Damien takes my hand and interwines our fingers. "You're not the only one who's been cheating, Brandon." He says. As soon as I put the drinks on the table, Damien opened his eyes to look at the Frappuccino. “You’re good at drink-selecting,” he said. “Well, you should probably be good at selecting based on your choice of groom.” Damien stirred his drink with a straw. “But, you don’t know where you should be.” He chewed the straw while holding the cup. He looked at me and then sipped his drink. Ah. I know what he means. He thinks I don’t deserve his brother. Well, it’s not even offensive since I already expected that somebody would say it to me at least once before the marriage.
