It creaked as it opened the sound echoing through the initial silence. Once in, the stench of decay and stale smoke hit us like a physical force, but I didn’t flinch. It was a labyrinth of half-light and clutter, the space filled with the low murmur of voices and the occasional clink of metal. The men inside hanged around on tattered furniture or clustered around makeshift tables, their eyes immediately shifting towards us with a mix of curiosity and respect. Levi, the boss of this dark haven, stood apart from the rest. His bearded face was a canvas of scars and shadows, his eyes gleaming with a cold, calculating intelligence that had earned him his place at the top.

Darkness fell across the realm as the Shadow Knight approached the capital's inner districts. Stars appeared in patterns reflecting the constellations visible within his midnight armour, cosmic forces aligning as if in recognition of the approaching reckoning. One child was the shadow and moved through the light patches trying not to be caught by the others who had to tag them before they reached the next patch of shade.

I must keep going, even though I am exhausted and sweating, because this is the only way I can win. Then I hear it—a noise behind me, a rustle. I tighten my grip on the hilt. “Who’s there?” I whisper, turning slowly. The forest answers with silence. But then—I saw a shadow between the trees. Someone is watching me. For the first time since my seventh rebirth, I realize I may not be the only one with memories.

The freaky end of days was coming. I faced the camera, my voice steady for all the people in the city to hear. "The freaky apocalypse is here, folks. I'm going to help you out as best I can. First up, find cover where the wind can't get you, subways, basements, factories, banks, any safe spot." Lights flickered on in every underground parking lot. The ground rumbled with a deep roar, setting the stage for Jim as he led his crew of infant spirits into a clash with the Haunts that sliced through the wind.

He is just watching. “Drake, please!” I cry out. The darkness lunges. It hits me from behind, a cold, suffocating weight that slams me back into the mud. I try to kick, to fight, but the shadow is everywhere. It’s in my hair, under my skin, behind my eyes. It whispers things I don't want to hear. It tells me that the light is a lie. For the first time in my life I knew I was about to lose someone again and I could not stop it. I looked at Rain standing there while Aaron moved toward her, and suddenly my body felt cold. Then everything changed. Darkness crept into the clearing. The ground beneath us trembled violently as black shadows spread everywhere like smoke crawling across the earth. Rain gasped. Aaron instantly stepped back. My eyes widened in shock. Shadow wolves - Kade's Shadow wolves. These creatures made entirely of darkness started slithering out from the shadows around us. Their glowing eyes locked onto Aaron instantly as low growls filled the clearing.

Josh did the same, but the look on his face said it all. This is a terrible idea. Xander mentioned his head for me to come behind him, and I did. I was now in the middle, between him and Josh. The entrance was very dark. Because of that, I pressed myself against Xander’s back as he walked and I mimicked the soft movement he made, trusting his steps even though it was dark. Perhaps wolves have night vision. Xander stopped and pushed me to the side while Josh stood in front of him then he opened another door and aimed his gun straight-ahead yet Xander stood confidently tall and his hands carelessly down.

The darkness loomed around them like a cloak. Sekhmet carried an old-fashioned torch he pulled from a hole in the wall to light the way. It was a bit theatric and unnecessary, considering vampires and werewolves alike could see in the dark. But it set the mood for torture nicely; causing shadows to dance across the walls. A bleeding.
