Even in the darkness, they were still a band of living people: tired, dirty, a little broken, clinging to scraps of humour.
The pawprints led them deeper. The walls widened into a chamber where the ceiling rose high above, lost in shadow. On the walls, faint carvings emerged — wolves in mid-howl, claws upraised, spirals swirling from their throats. Someone had painted them once, and scraps of pigment still clung to the stone like dried blood.
Caleb stopped, eyes wide. “These are stories,” he breathed. “Look — the first pact, the binding of the rogue, the Stone’s birth…”
