I raised my glass, smiling at everyone. Then I turned and walked out of the ballroom. I don't know why I followed. Maybe I just needed to see it one last time, to kill any lingering hope. I followed Kaelen's scent to a closed door. I didn't open it. I just stood outside. I could see Eileen sitting on the bed, a neat bandage wrapped around her hand.
