“They’ll cripple us first.” As if to prove his point, the ground beneath Winter suddenly burst upward. A glowing snare snapped around his ankle, yanking him off his feet. “WINTER!” I cried. He hit the ground hard, grunting in pain. Before the trap could tighten further, he slashed downward, severing the glowing tether. “I’m fine!” he barked. “Just angry!” Figures finally emerged from the shadows. Five of them. Elves—but not like Fenrir. Their armor was dark, etched with sharp, angular sigils that hurt to look at for too long. Their eyes glowed faintly red, magic pulsing beneath their skin like something alive and restless.

An unfathomable relief broke out on my pale face at the sight of them being alive and well. They froze in terror noticing me stuck to the wall above the ground. No word escaped through their petrified mouth which kept hanging with shock.
