A beam of light pierced through, dispelling the darkness and revealing the true form of the chamber. Alex stood across the room, freed from his own battle with the shadows. He rushed towards me, and we embraced, our combined energies fusing and radiating outwards. But as the darkness receded, the floor beneath us began to crumble, and the abyss beckoned once more. Before we could react, the ground gave way, and we began to fall into the void. As the world around us faded to black, the only thing I could see was Alex's eyes, filled with determination and hope.

I pressed my hand against the light— And the world shattered. I didn’t scream. I didn’t breathe. I just fell. Fell through the code, through the memories, through the voices calling my name. And then everything went dark.

My thoughts slow, my mind growing heavy, as if the darkness is pulling me under, dragging me down into its depths. And then, just as suddenly as it began, the fall stops. I’m suspended in the void, weightless and adrift, my heart pounding in my chest. The darkness presses in around me, but it no longer feels threatening. Instead, it’s almost… comforting. Like a blanket, soft and warm, wrapping me in its embrace.

I don’t have much food left and I’m starting to have to fill up my water bottles in the sink. Maybe they’ll just leave me here to starve, I thought. No, they said they wanted me, they have to want me for something … sex? I mean they hadn’t so far tried anything but what the hell else could they want? I took a lot of showers, since it was about the only time I felt normal. It was the only time I could close my eyes and feel like I was escaping, like I was home. I had been asleep for a while, there was no way to know how long. When I woke up it was pitch black in the room, those fuckers cut off the light!

Black as the darkest night hair against a crisp linen pillow, brown skin against a blindingly white sheet, and tiger’s eyes burning with deliberate cruelty and triumph into hers. In horrified rejection of the imagery that had sprung into her mind, Lara Anderson shuddered violently, dimly aware that she was still in the grip of severe shock. Abruptly, she was dredged from her turmoil by the insistent shrill of the telephone in the hall. Reluctantly she answered the summons, carefully shutting the lounge door behind her so that her father was not disturbed.

My eyes fall shut, trying to keep the tears at bay. “I accepted the path of darkness for myself. I’m a vampire,” Lucas continues. “That’s what we are. That’s what’s inside of us. Darkness.” He slips one hand under me, and my heart swells in my chest. “I believed I could never be anything but dark. I let it consume me, and I told myself that’s how things were meant to be. For over a thousand years I clung onto that false truth…and then I met you.” A tear rolls down my cheek.

Dawn Falling into the darkness felt like a slow, inevitable descent into nothingness. The pain that had racked my body before was gone, but the emptiness it left behind was almost worse. There was nothing to hold onto, no ground beneath me, no light to guide me. I was floating in a void, weightless and lost. If I could scream, I would. For this was worse than dreadful nightmares. I was alone and falling in a way that felt like my very essence was being suctioned out by a huge vacuum. There were times when I felt a twitch. Like an anchor that pulled me away from the darkness. It only lasted for a few seconds though.

As though he was calling out from across the globe. I attempted to shout for him. Tried to utter his name.. My lips refused to move. The darkness was drawing nearer. Becoming denser. Becoming tougher to resist. I sensed myself falling. I could sense awareness fading like water escaping through my hands. I attempted to cling on. Attempted to remain alert. I tried to keep my eyes open a bit. But it was too hard. Darkness prevailed. And everything went black.

Fear closed painfully around my chest. If I let go, I could die. But if I stayed— A creature suddenly appeared inches from his face, screeching violently. I made the decision before fear could stop me. I let go. The darkness swallowed me instantly. The fall felt endless. Cold wind tore past my body while panic consumed every thought in my head. I screamed, but the sound vanished into the void around me. Then something strange happened. The darkness began changing. Small lights appeared around me one by one, glowing softly like floating stars. Hundreds of them surrounded my falling body until the void no longer looked empty. It looked familiar, too familiar.

I couldn’t comprehend the amount of information I had that day. I could see the entrance getting closer, as a shadow stepped out from the doors as my vision blurred, and I fell. I had nothing left in me; the darkness cascaded down around me as I was dragged into the abyss.
