As she reached for the last one, her back accidentally knocked into the bookshelf, sending several books tumbling to the floor with a loud thud. Her heart leapt into her throat as she spun around, eyes wide. The noise felt like a bomb in the quiet room. Hastily, she crouched down, picking up the fallen books, her fingers trembling as she placed them back on the shelf. Every second felt like a countdown to the moment Ivan would burst through the door and find her there. She silently begged that Iris would keep him occupied, at least for a while longer. For the first time, Autumn prayed that Iris would hold Ivan's attention entirely. The irony wasn't lost on her.

With the fear of hitting someone in the head is she just let it go, she put the jar back to one of the shelves and think to herself that after this fall, she might as well stumble and falls down a seemingly endless staircase. Everything inside me goes still. My mind tries to reject it, but my body reacts first. My eyes stay locked on the words in disbelief. My knees buckle. The book falls from my hand and lands on the floor with a heavy thud. I barely feel myself going down. One second ago I was standing, and now I am on the ground. The cold stone bites into my palms as I try to steady myself too late. The hidden library looks like what they haven’t taken care of in a long while, so the floor looks dirty and rusted.

My first official act as the Anchor was a deception. The book beneath my hand warmed. Somewhere deep inside my ribs, the "me" that used to eat stolen apples and laugh at Kael’s brooding flinched. I ignored her. “I can hold this,” I continued, my voice gaining a terrifying steadiness. “I can maintain equilibrium. I can absorb the deviation. That was the agreement.” Silence. Then—Acceptance. The plinth dissolved. The book didn't disappear; it sank into me. Not into my hands, but into my concept. I felt it settle behind my sternum, heavy and precise, like a second heart that didn't beat unless something went wrong.

The books looked very ancient. Out of nowhere, my head started spinning again. I stumbled forward and some of the books from the file fell down. I picked them quickly and placed them back in their place. As I was keeping back the last book, a piece of paper fell off. I picked it up involuntarily.

And eventually, I grew tired of searching and started organising some out of place books. At least that was one of the things I do best. I moved through the aisles, swiftly and efficiently. Putting the books back in order. A brown bulky book caught my eye. Placed horizontally amongst vertical books. Above my reach. I stepped on my toes. Arms stretching to grab the book. I groaned, trying even harder until my hands brushed against the book. The heavy book slipped. I gasped. Shielding my head from the fall but fortunately, it fell to my side.

Vincenzo’s dark soulless eyes bore into mine, making my inside cuddle, but I had no intention of showing him how much of an effect he had on me. “You’re right, Little Ballerina…” he nodded, terrifying brutality lurk in his eyes as he strode towards me. His steps were slow, languid and prey-like. And as a human, my instinct kicked in to do the needful. RUN. But instead, I stood my ground, trying to steady my trembling legs which already had enough of my weight and wanted out when I needed it the most. “But when you see yourself surrounded in a puddle of blood, what should you do?” He stopped right in front of me, towering over me like a god.

"You're here, aren't you? What's going to happen to me?" Leo stepped closer to him, cornering Archer against the table. As he lowered his eyes, meeting Archer's gentle, smiling gaze, Leo felt the burning feeling in his chest intensify. However, he refused to lose to Archer. So, he took the wine glass and finished everything, spiked wine and all, with Archer's eyes on him. "Something terrible's about to happen," Leo said. "Aren't you going to run, Archie?" Archer shoved Leo aside. Leo immediately froze in place, not daring to turn around and watch Archer leave. The drug was starting to take effect on his body, but Leo's blood had already run cold.

i said to myself trying to chase the fear feeling away. I sat down and continued reading where i stopped. Suddenly i heard a book falling from the shelf in the next corridor. " Mr Franklin!!" I yelled but there was no response. I had to go and do a check up. I stoop up slowly and then i started creeping to the next corridor. I found the book laying down, i picked it up and placed it where it belonged. I moved back to my seat but something happened to the book i was reading, I didn't find it the way i left it , it was misplaced.
