He wondered what she'd read. Curious, he dried his hands and pinched up the small pile of sewed pages that had no leather cover and laid them in the palm of his hand. With his pinkie he turned the pages, squinting with delicate scrutiny at the tiny drawn images and writings. There appeared to be several pages pertaining to were-beasts, a couple about harpies, a chunk on dragons, the small part on fairies, and then he paused upon seeing a particular illustration. He didn't have to read the fancily scrawled heading to recognize what the chapter was about. Oh. That was why she suddenly stopped reading to him.

“Is that a challenge, baby?” Amara looked over her shoulder, her eyes meeting his as she tilted her head. “Do you take it as one?” Rhys walked behind her, his chest touching her back as he raised his hand and ran his fingers over the several books on the shelf above. Eyes sharp and amused. Amara was almost pressed between him and the book rack, heart in her mouth and legs clenching. She knew he was doing it on purpose. “You like fantasy, more like magic and knights.” He pulled out one book, a thick book with a light brown cover with images of a knight and a woman. He tilted his head. “Never grasped what’s so good about this one though.”

This time, she made certain she didn’t show him so much of her legs when she adjusted on the saddle. They rode everywhere, at least it seemed like everywhere for her. She had never seen so much land without farms or houses occupying the space. Everything was so green. Red, violet, yellow, and pink flowers sprinkled the fields like a rainbow. She adored every second she was out here with Gabe. Once in a while, he stopped and pointed to something and told her a little history behind the object. It amazed her how educated he was, and it pleased her more than it should.
