I sighed and stepped around the wall my boyfriends had created. “You have two minutes. We need to get to our seats.” I said, folding my arms. “Of course. Um. So since you last saw me, I was dishonorably discharged for being AWOL. I went into rehab for drinking. And more than that, I’ve been seeing a therapist three days a week about my issues. I’ve been so much better. I promise. I go to AA once a week and attend anger management weekly too.” he said, holding up a six-month sober token.

His words play in my head throughout the drive to Christ knows where. I stop at a coffee shop to get at least something healthy to drink. "1 iced Americano. Could you add extra sugar in it?" He nods and goes to get my order ready. I take a booth by the window once I get my drink and a doughnut. I'm completely sober right now, and I hate being sober. It gives me a lot of time to think, but there's nothing good in my head.

I winced as soon as I took the shot, “Give me three more,”

“Drunk words, sober thoughts.” “What were my sober thoughts?” Zach gave me a slight glance and walked into the elevator. “Look at where you’re going. Otherwise, the next thing you bump into won’t be my chest.” I walked into the elevator and stood next to him. I promised myself that I would not drink a single drop of alcohol again in my entire life. It was either that or train my alcohol tolerance. It was extremely embarrassing to have blacked out after a bottle of beer and have Zach ridicule me.

Tonight I just want to forget. My flat is too quiet when I get home, so I plug my MP3 player into its docking station and crank up the music before pouring myself a healthy slug of vodka, which I down in one go, the alcohol burning my throat and warming my stomach. I pour myself another shot and slowly start to feel the numbness spreading through my body. I am such a lightweight, the combination of lack of food and sleep means that the third shot has me reeling, and I find myself screaming the lyrics to Limp Bizkit’s ‘Break Stuff’, wishing that I could break Taylor’s face.
