After he helped me stand properly, he awkwardly scratched the back of his head and said, "I'm sorry. I usually play basketball, so I might have grabbed you a little too hard. Did I hurt your boobs?" I was still at a loss for words. It was a completely understatement to say that we were both suffocating from embarrassment at this point. "Uhh, pretend I said nothing," Austin said, suddenly realizing that he'd said the wrong thing. He then waved at me and turned to leave. I stared at his bright red ears and gingerly touched my boobs. Then, I subtly redid the bra clasp he'd accidentally unclasped while he'd been squeezing me. Suddenly, I felt an urge to laugh out loud.

The place was engulfed in fire and looked nothing like my home. The sound of sirens wailed in the background. Firefighters sprayed water with relentless efforts, attempting to quell the flames. Panic and fear gripped me, and I stumbled out of the car. "Grandpa? W-where is grandpa?" I frantically scanned the chaotic scene, looking for a familiar face among the crowd but I couldn't find grandpa in them. "H-have y-you seen an old man? A-a bit taller than me?" I asked one of the firefighters, clutching at his uniform to get his attention. "He-he's my grandfather... He-he lives in that house."

"Why are you still talking? Just do what I say! Besides, didn't they say other units have already been dispatched? It's not as if anyone's going to die." His tone was dismissive as he showed no intention of responding to the fire. Tugging at Daniel's sleeve, Laura softly said, "Daniel, you should go if you have to." She then turned to the other firefighters. "I'm sorry for taking up public resources and making you all get scolded by your captain. I'm truly sorry." With that, she lowered her head. The firefighters exchanged glances but said nothing more. After all, they were aware of Daniel and Laura's relationship.

“Really Kat? I was being a nice person by coming all the way out here to deliver a message and this is how you repay me? By trying to drown me?" “Aww, you’re right. That wasn’t a very friendly thing to do. Let me help you dry off.” I offered, making no effort to hide the humor in my tone. Flicking my wrist, I surrounded him in a circle of flames, the heat from which would have him dry in a flash. “Shit!” He cursed again, halting in his tracks. The glare he sent me told me he did not see the humor in it at all. Fun spoiler! I watched as the fire sucked the moisture from his clothes then quickly doused the flames.

Nothing came out of my throat except for a hoarse wheeze. Frank exaggeratedly mimicked me, pitching his voice mockingly. "Oh, no! Has the smoke damaged our great hero Emmett's brain? Pretending to be all woe-is-me now? If you were going to be this fragile, you shouldn't have become a firefighter in the first place!" The disgust on Cassadee's face could no longer be hidden. "That's enough. Stop embarrassing yourself." She roughly grabbed the strap of my extinguisher harness and forcefully dragged me to a crumbling corner of the wall as if she were dragging a dead carcass.

The fire trucks sprayed water and slowly the flames died down. I stood next to Kade as the chaos settled. You really risked everything in there. Had to he said simple. For the team. For you. We were not just individuals we were working together like a machine. Stephen was at the front of the line, where the smoke was thickest. He was throwing water on the fire. The buckets were not heavy at first. After a while my arms started to hurt. My shoulders felt like they were being pulled apart.. Then I looked back at the well and saw Marco he was old and his back was bent but he was still turning the handle to get water. The fire was like a living thing it was making a lot of noise and spitting sparks everywhere. It was burning the trees and it sounded like gunfire. The sparks were landing on our hair and clothes.

Then Sarah Jo steered the conversation in another direction. “So do you really like being a firefighter?” I nodded, smiling. “I love it.” “Isn’t it scary?” she asked. “I mean, most people run from fires, not to them.” “I mean, if you’re not a little scared, you’re just crazy. Fire is no joke. But being able to help people that way makes up for it. Saving someone’s life, or even just their home and memories, makes it all worth it at the end of the day.”

Karina anxiously watched the stairwell, her heart pounding. Finally, she saw the firefighters carrying people down on their backs. But the situation looked grim. “Get them to emergency care immediately!” one firefighter shouted. “The two middle-aged adults are unconscious from severe smoke inhalation and are in critical condition! The son appears to be relatively unharmed.” Thankfully, an ambulance was already on standby. Hearing the firefighter’s report, the nurses rushed out with stretchers, loading the family into the vehicle.
