“Come on, Alex. Loosen up. How about a joke?”
“No.”
“What do you call a musician who can’t find their rhythm?”
I stared at him, unimpressed.
“A lost cause!”
“Seriously?”
Luke chuckled, leaning closer. “Oh, come on, you know that was funny.”
Despite myself, I felt a reluctant smile tugging at my lips. His petty jokes weren’t spectacular, but they managed to chip away at the cloud of tension hanging over me.
“Better,” Luke said after a while. “Still a little stiff, but at least you don’t sound like you’re strangling the guitar anymore.”
