The Queen's Pawns

The Queen's Pawns

He then walked towards the cabin and nonchalantly grabbed the paddle as he tossed it to Hellion again. “Go, do your job.” Hellion irritatingly smack him with the paddle again. “You sick b*stard!”

A Pawn in Your Game

A Pawn in Your Game

I sat off to the side, listening to my father's threats, trying to pressure Zach into marrying me. As the person directly involved, I wasn't allowed to speak. Zach remained resolute. "I will not marry Leah." Despite knowing this was all part of the game, hearing those words still struck a chord, a sudden, unexpected pang in my chest. The man before me, cold and proud, stood with a dignity that remained unshaken, even in front of my father. If things had been different, maybe we truly wouldn't marry. At my father's signal, eight bodyguards, all trained fighters, swiftly surrounded Zach.

Stealing My Best Friend's Alpha

Stealing My Best Friend's Alpha

Moonbeams from the night blurred into the room, blending with the warm LED lights designed into the walls and the corner lights spread across the space. "How does one even play this?" I asked, turning to see that Kai had left his work and was strolling toward me. He followed my gaze to the life-sized chessboard with equally life-sized pieces. "You simply use those." He pointed, and when he reached me, he let me see the remote. Pressing down a button, the first pawn moved. "That's sick." My brows raised, my jaw practically landing on the floor for the thousandth time. "I know, right?" Kai laughed.

Kidnapped By The Ruthless Alpha Of North

Kidnapped By The Ruthless Alpha Of North

I moved my pawn and just like that, we kept playing without exchanging any words. Every once in a while, I stole glances at Damon but he didn’t lift his eyes even once and kept playing quietly. We killed each other's pieces and the game was moving to its final stages. I tried to focus on the game but now my thoughts were all over the place. My eyes were on the board when Damon moved his Rook to f8 and trapped my King. I had no other option but to move my King to g8 and that only proved to be my worst move when Damon delivered the final blow by moving his Queen to g7 and announced, “Checkmate!"

Contract Marriage with the Vampire

Contract Marriage with the Vampire

Ellen said as he took his seat across from master Kai. "Thank you very much, and the pleasure is all mine. Take a seat and prepare for the game to begin." With a smirk on his face, Master Kai answered as he leaned back in his chair. Ellen took his seat and began the game by placing his initial pawn in the centre of the board to advance forward. After Ellen moved his knight, Master Kai smirked and said, "It is a lot of fun to play with you; none of the other players had as much confidence as you."

THE GAME

THE GAME

She nodded slightly before peering deeper into the store. " There's an arcade game at that corner over there. Want to play?" " Uh... Sure. " " You have a penny?" " A few coins." We walked over to the arcade and she slotted a coin into it and soon the arcade popped to the life. It was just a regular game, nothing fancy, but she looked good at it. " You know how to play?" I asked.

His collateral

His collateral

"The pawns are the poor, restricted to one movement at a time. The rook, bishop and knight are the middle class. They have a fairer chance at life but still limited. Then the king, the wealthy, the most important figure in society. The poor and middle class look up to their position as something they should attain. And lastly the queen, the super rich and influential. The most powerful piece on the board.” Elena nodded slowly. There was something in what he said that made uncomfortable sense. "Which category do you belong to?" He smiled. "Which do you think, Mrs. Dalton?" She thought for a moment. "The queen." "Wrong." Her eyes widened. "The king?" "Wrong." He laughed, clearly enjoying this

Rejected Luna: Awakening Her Silver Wolf

Rejected Luna: Awakening Her Silver Wolf

For every round he lost, Mila won, and she seemed to take a particular joy in always winning against him. Jonah’s face now shone with intense concentration, like this chess game was some sort of sacred battle — or a lottery that would grant him extra life if he won. “Knight to F3,” Jonah played, his voice confident. Mila smiled lightly before replying, “Pawn to E6. Pawn to D4. Let’s see what you do next.” Jonah smirked. “Knight to F6.” “Bishop to G5,” Mila said smoothly, pinning his knight.

The Mafia King’s Pawn

The Mafia King’s Pawn

She cried but I ignored her. I didn’t look back. I walked out of our tiny apartment and went down the open-air hallway to the moss-covered, crumbling concrete steps of the aging building where all the Hale Ka’nani Resort’s staff lived. "It’s just like riding a bike. It will be easier than you think." I told myself fiercely as I raced down the steps. It was just as easy as dozing off after a long workday. Even after ten years away from the game, I could win at poker. I could.
