Lisa is wearing a Harley Quinn costume and Owen is going as the Joker. I’m still hesitant about going. I don’t want to spend the night alone while my friends are out there partying, but I also feel like it’s a stupid move to go there, to see him, and to look at him in the eye. I have a feeling I might give in if he tells me he likes me. I might forget everything I have said to him if my eyes met his, but the question here, would he forget? Would he forget my calling him delusional? Would he forget that I told him that I don’t like him?

Audrey’s POV “Would you like me to make your eyeshadow darker, ma’am?” the makeup artist asked as she carefully blended color over my eyelids. I was at the hotel, getting ready for Papa’s 70th birthday party. The theme: Hollywood Superheroes. I chose to go as Catwoman, sleek, mysterious, dangerous. I wasn’t sure if Sage would come as Batman, but he said maybe Captain America. I just let him decide. Honestly, I wasn’t even sure if he could make it tonight. He’d been drowning in business meetings lately, barely reaching out.

He looks exactly like Zack in Angel's of Death while I look like Rachel. "I sort of looked for a pumpkin costume, a-and mouse one, but couldn't find one my size, then I-I googled, and the girl looks like you." He says, "Do you— Do you like it?" I walk to him and nudge him in the elbow with my shoulders, "Of course I like it. It's an anime themed costume that we're paired in, how can I not?" "Oh good, cause I t-thought you'd want something sexier…" Then he trails off as I raise my eyebrows at him before he shoves his hands into his pockets and brings out a black collar, "H-Here. She did a little twirl then looked at me over her shoulder, her brows wiggled as a mischievous smile formed on her red lips. Trish was dressed as a sexy Catwoman. Instead of doing it the way Anne Hatheway did in The Dark Knight Rises, she went for Halle Berry’s version and was wearing vinyl lingerie paired with leather pants and killer heels. And of course, she had a cat mask headpiece on and was also carrying a whip. I was pretty sure the guys would be all over her. “You look really hot,” I finally said. “Hot enough for anyone to commit a sin?” asked Trish, tilting her head to one side.

I take off the boxing gloves, toss them onto the floor and start to unwrap my hands. “That was dumb.” Harley’s voice echoes in the empty locker room. I look to see her watching me from an adjacent doorway with her arms crossed across her chest. I shoot up to my feet and take her in. She’s changed outfits in preparation for her fight; a simple black sports bra, black tights and golden sneakers. “I’ve done dumber things.” “Yes. Yes, you have.” She watches me discerningly before pushing herself off the doorframe to leave. “Right, I have an ass to whoop.”

The problem didn’t exist for this costume as it was literally a thong at the pack so that her bubble buttcheeks could bounce for everyone to see and possibly touch. It was a rather lovely choice that didn’t give away too much. However, the other outfit was also equally tempting for the unboxing experience. It wasn’t as revealing, but if London wanted Queenie to do a striptease dance and hook a King’s Crown donation tonight, it might be a smarter choice. Halloween week at Fantasy Island meant themed costumes, and Madam Fantasy had been clear: go big or go home. I adjusted my mask in the mirror. Black and silver, covering the top half of my face, with small silver chains that dangled near my temples. The mask was my safety. My shield. Without it, I was just Jane Puckett, broke college student. With it, I was Jailbird, whoever the hell I wanted to be. The dressing room smelled like hairspray and body glitter. Keiko was beside me, dressed as Catwoman, her mask sleek and minimal. Cammie had gone full Harley Quinn, complete with a baseball bat covered in rhinestones.

“You won’t be saying that when I pull your soul out of your ass.” Jada snarled back. With a growl, he grabbed her wrist and slapped the cuffs around them. I knew he must’ve pinched skin from the way she gritted her teeth and winced. Next came Hakeem, who looked like Nox, thanks to Harley’s shapeshifting ability. The guy didn’t think twice before slapping a set of cuffs on him. He turned his stare to Nox and me, and I silently prayed he didn’t somehow see past Harley’s magic.

Friday came in a flash and it was finally time for everyone to attend the school’s Halloween party. I was dressed up as Batman and I’m pretty sure Ambrose will show up as Robin in a matter of minutes. The costumes that we had were cliché and boring but I was glad that Ambrose insisted that I’d be Batman even if I don’t have the perfect body for it. I’m wearing a mask anyway and no one will recognize me. I arrived at the school’s gymnasium and everyone’s wearing their own Halloween costume.
