Though the Fords were the richest in the country but the Walkers were a very old and famous family of Odessa and they had a close relationship with the Fords! Millions of business transactions happen in between the Fords and the Walkers and also because of their popularity, Mr Harrison Walker was a very important person on whom Mr Jason was depending a lot! The Walkers support was almost indispensable for Jason to not only win the election and become the Mayor, but he needed their support to remain in the position!
