Ida stood up and tried walking away when Haru held her wrist. "Can we rehearse together?"

I called out, straightening the stack of scrolls on my desk. The door creaked open, and Maki, my ever-reliable handmaiden, stepped inside. Her dark eyes flickered with a nervous energy that instantly put me on guard. "Is there something troubling you, Maki?" I inquired, setting the scrolls aside. Maki hesitated, shifting her weight from one foot to the other. "Forgive my intrusion, Luna," she finally began, her voice barely above a whisper. "There's a matter I wished to discuss, but only if it pleases you."

Makaila got to school very late. Her face was swollen and red and she tried her best to cover all her scars by wearing a baggy hoodie. She rushed into class while they were almost ending third period. Immediately she entered the class, all eyes were on her. "You are late." Miss Tamika stated eyeing her with distaste. "I'm sorry, I really had a bad night." Makaila muttered. "Just get to your seat." Miss Tamika dismissed her and continued to teach. She found an empty space at the back and went to sit down.
