Aria's POV At Knox's words, I paused with a small wince. “Well…” I started, and Knox also paused, lifting an eyebrow at me in question. “I want to go on my own.” I said softly, but steadily. “I don't want you to come with me, let me handle it myself.” He hesitated, clearly unhappy as he crossed his arms with narrowed eyes. “Why not? Is there a problem with me walking you there?” I shook my head quickly. “It’s not that. I just... I want to do this on my own. I need to.”

"I am coming with you." I shake my head. "No, my love. I need to do this on my own." He doesn't approve it, of course, and I wouldn't approve it either if I were in his shoes. But this time I need to the one walking away, I need to be the one giving all some space, in order to be at peace with myself. I know I can do it. The question is, will I be able to do it before another attack comes?

With that he returns to the bathroom. I have been independent since I was 18 when I left my parent's place. I actually raised two boys who think they can trick me but hello, I'm a Mom, you can never trick a Mom. So no, when I say I'm not going, I. Am. Not. Going. Stop. Stop judging me or think that I am such a hardhead. Because I'm not. I've done this, my doctor has given her green light, I am perfectly capable to be on my own.

I cross the driveway with my keys in my hand, the address glowing on my screen. I am going to fix this. The way I fix everything. By myself. I get in. I start the engine. And I drive into the dark.

It’s something I have to uncover on my own. And I’ll do whatever it takes to find it.

I’ve already made my decision to survive on my own, and I’m not changing my mind. No matter how much it hurts.
