Healing this fast can only mean one thing… ‘Hello?’ I called inside my head excitedly. ‘Are you here?’ I waited a moment, and my excitement faded into confusion. ‘Please… please tell me you’re here? I am so alone…’ The last part slips out as a whisper. I hang my head, drowning in the overwhelming feeling of isolation.

But I guess it’s okay to say that it’s okay not to be okay most of the time. I was standing front and center with the microphone in front of me and although the house isn’t as full tonight, I could still see a lot of heads and pair of eyes watching me. Some of them are in groups but I could see some are alone. Perhaps they’re just like me. Alone and lonely. Years of waiting gone in a few words. I had never felt so alone.

But I silence it ruthlessly. I'm truly meant to be alone.

I let myself believe it. That maybe, just maybe, I wasn’t as alone as I thought.

My nerves are on edge. If I weren’t stiff as a board and freezing to death, I’d be jumpy, but as it is, when I hear the faint step or skitter of rock, I clutch the quilt tighter and try really hard to think about anything other than the fact that I’m all alone, no one knows where I am, and I’m practically human. And it was all my decision.
