The light bounced, strobe-lighting the room in frantic bursts. In one flash, I saw the Twins standing up. In the next, Lady Genevieve was leaning forward, her porcelain fingers reaching out. In the third, the Bride had stood from her rocking chair, the veil fluttering as if moved by a breath that wasn't mine. I lunged for the phone, my fingers brushing the cold metal just as a small, porcelain hand clamped onto my wrist. The grip was ice-cold and unnaturally strong. I screamed, kicking out, and managed to grab the phone. I shone the light directly at the thing holding me.

Zren looked at the two, "Are you guys serious?" They nodded as a response. "Fine, however, please guys, don't shout if you're scared, or else Yashi will wake up. Understood?" "Understood!" The three of them switched off the lights in the kitchen and moved to the living room where the seventy-two inches tv was placed. They also turned the lights off, sat on the sofa together with their food, and choose a horror movie to watch. "What should we watch?" Zren asked the two. "There is a newly released horror movie yesterday, the reviews that people left, said that it was extremely terrifying," Xhyne explained, there was even a hint of excitement in his voice.

I lied about both of them, I couldn’t fight and I was stupid to walk around without pepper spray. “Now why would I leave you alone?” he smirked down at me. “You’re asking for it.” I reached into my bag, pretending to grab something. “Sweetheart, I know for a fact that you’re lying, I just told you, we can read minds, and by the way your heart is beating, I know for a fact you’re lying.” He came closer to my ear, “Do I make you nervous baby?” That is when it happened, the first time a vampire had ever bitten me, a scream escaped my lips as my body slowly went limb in his arms.

I close my eyes as I breathe her in, filling my lungs with her heavenly scent. I’m about to pull away when I feel her small hands on my chest, and I freeze with my lips still against her forehead. She hesitantly runs her hands up my chest to connect behind my neck, and my lungs start to burn as I realize that I had been holding my breath.

The air was charged with tension, and I felt like I was drowning in the depths of his eyes. Suddenly, he reached out and gently brushed a strand of hair behind my ear. The touch sent shivers down my spine, and I felt my cheeks flush with heat. I turned to him, our faces inches apart, the movie forgotten. As the horror movie reached its climax, I found myself gripping the armrests, my knuckles white with fear. The jump scares and creepy atmosphere had me on edge, and I couldn't help but squeal with terror. In a flash, I buried my face in his chest, seeking refuge from the terrifying scenes on screen. His arms wrapped around me, holding me close as I trembled with fear.

CLEO. I stand there, watching. My eyes simply skimmed at the already panicked crowd, I don’t run, I don't even try to move, everyone’s holding their breath and I wonder how long that will take. According to research, one can only hold one’s breath for thirty to ninety seconds, before they inhale again, and when they inhale again, the smoke will be going down their throat. The glass of mimosa feels cold against my grasp, even when people shove me aside, telling me to run. I simply ignore them, I am breathing freely, no doubt, because why else will I remain here and not join the panicked crowd?

Her wet hair stuck to her skin, a deep frown etched between her brows. Then her eyes fluttered open. She didn't try to catch her breath. She only stared at me, her eyes wide. “Are you trying to kill yourself?” I snapped, my jaw tightening as I held her against me, my breathing heavy. She blinked at me. “I can hold my breath.” I stared at her. She continued. “I know how to hold my breath underwater.” A scoff left my mouth. Water dripped from her hair and slid down her face. Her body remained pressed against mine, her hands resting between us.

"It was James who told me to prank her! I was merely obeying his orders! I didn't know she had asthma! How could I, when she never told me about it? Besides, I just cut off her oxygen for a few seconds. Is it my fault that she had a weak body?" The interrogator pinned her with a chilly look. "Marissa Payton, how do you explain the bailout cylinder in your bag?" Marissa paused briefly, then burst into even louder sobs. "I just picked it up! I saw it on the cave floor, so I thought I would help Nat pick it up! I just forgot to return it to her! I didn't mean to! I swear!" There was no denying she was a great actor. If I had been alive, I might have really been fooled by her act.

His breathing is shallow, and I can feel the tremor in his arms where they're wrapped around me. The video plays. Thirty-two seconds of hell. It feels like thirty-two years. I don't look at the footage anymore. I watch him. The first few seconds pass, and nothing changes. His expression is blank, almost curiously neutral, like he's watching a stranger on screen. He doesn’t flinch or take a sharp inhale. Then the moment comes when young Hayden's hands tighten around Rachel's throat and the sick little smile tugs at his lips. Hayden's eyes go empty.
