I rubbed my forehead gently, feeling a little throbbing in my head that made me a little dizzy. I could barely tell if it was day or night as I gazed out the window. But each day was dragging me closer to the apocalypse. And as strong as I felt, even with better vision that I could see people walking from kilometres away, I didn't know if I was ready for it. If I was going to not only survive the apocalypse but also take in survivors who would have nowhere else to go. With a sigh, I was about to make my way downstairs when a crazy thought clicked in my head and my lips curled into a smile.

She only knew that in one month, a zombie virus would sweep across the globe. By then, money would be worthless, while the supplies inside that tiny store would become the key to survival. With my ability to live just by absorbing the water particles in the air, I was guaranteed to survive the apocalypse. I boarded up all the windows except for the one near the balcony as a safety precaution. I then picked up the novel I had been reading. It was part of the resources that I had quickly gathered while everyone was busy fighting over the money and mocking me earlier. I had a few novels, card games, and puzzles. Although they seemed to be useless in a plant apocalypse, they were essential in keeping me sane in an isolated environment.

"There are still a couple of things that I need. So, let’s go over it.” For the next twenty minutes, we went back and forth over tonnage, pallet counts, and shelf-life guarantees. I pushed for any food that would last years when properly stored. I knew just how much food would cost during the apocalypse. I also pushed for enough seeds to grow a farm. But I was probably going to buy a mobile green house and have it moved to my base. Just as we were finalizing the initial inventory draft, my phone vibrated violently against the glass table. I glanced down and frowned. There was no caller ID on the number. But somehow, I had a feeling of who it could be.

The morning’s been almost suspiciously normal. After rogue wolves and fights and running and discovering my life belongs in the fantasy section of a bookshop, I find myself standing in our driveway surrounded by grocery bags. We cleaned out half the supermarket because all of us are still eating like we've been stranded at sea for six months, and judging by the amount of food currently filling the boot, we’re planning to survive an apocalypse. The air smells like cut grass and sunshine. Birds are chirping. It feels so ordinary that part of me keeps waiting for something terrible to happen.

Hearing him call me that made Zariah stir and made me melt inside a little. I had done it. I had escaped my ass hole rejected mate and found my second chance mate. I still had a lot to do but I had Amelia, Kyle, Dominic and Emron to help me. I didn't know what would happen but I wasn't completely worried about it and neither was Zariah. With only ten days left until Christmas, I had to move quickly to stock up on supplies. I stockpiled goods using apocalypse survival guides from online bloggers and bought 50 times the amount of every item on their lists. I bought 100 boxes each of long-lasting foods such as dry rations, canned goods, and dehydrated meals. I also bought 100 crates each of staples like rice and flour, which were easy to store and prepare. I stocked up on drinking water and water filtration equipment to ensure I could access clean water when the apocalypse came.

Her memories from her previous life remained vivid. The horrors. The suffering. The endless struggle to survive. The apocalypse lasted for years. Far longer than most people imagined it would. Her gaze drifted toward the horizon. I want Hope Base to continue thriving even ten years from now. Twenty years if necessary. No one knows how long this apocalypse will last. Maybe it will end someday. Maybe it won't. Another sigh escaped her. Rather than waiting for salvation... Rather than hoping the nightmare magically disappears...
