He didn’t waste them where they weren’t needed. “And?” he asked. I folded my arms loosely. “I didn’t tell her anything directly. Just that I might be around more. That I’d spend less time at my apartment.” His jaw tightened subtly and I wouldn't have caught it if I wasn't staring so hard at him. “She was excited,” I continued quietly. “Too excited.” “She misses you,” he said simply. I looked away. “I know.” Silence settled between us, thick but not hostile. It was the kind of quiet we’d mastered long before things fell apart, the kind that said more than conversation ever could.

He said sounding sad for not being here. “ I miss you Mel, and am sorry again for not telling you,I just hope you'll forgive me.” He said sadly. But I couldn't bring myself to answer him, I missed him too, my God did I miss him, his teasing, his cooking, and his presence around the house, I missed all of it, but I couldn't let him know I had forgiven him. Not yet anyways. “Hello.. Mel are you there” he asked a little panic in his voice at not hearing mine.

I say before I can stop myself. A soft exhale on his end. “I’m trying not to be someone who makes you feel small.” That lands. Right in my chest. I don’t know what to do with it. “Okay,” I say quietly. Silence settles after that. But it’s not awkward. Just… there. “I miss you,” he says. Just like that. No build up. No warning. My fingers tighten slightly around my phone. “I know,” I say. I don’t say it back.

I said. Immediately I spoke, his expression changed. For a moment, he looked tense, his eyes narrowing. “What did he say?" he asked, his voice low and even. I took a deep breath, before I spoke, “He missed you,” I said, my voice softening. “He always talked about you with fondness. No matter how hard he tried to hide it at times…he wanted you by his side.” For a moment his gaze softened and I saw a flash of emotions run through him.

“What’s wrong?” “Nothing,” I lied with a small smile. “I just… missed you.” He studied me for a moment, like he didn’t believe me, but then he sighed and smiled faintly. “I missed you too.” His voice was quiet and rough, the kind that sent a shiver down my spine.

So much for waiting, I thought to myself sighing heavily. "So.. What happened with you?" I managed to say, without breaking shut of sentences, when he turned to look at him, and I tried to maintain the eye contact, without breaking it this time. "What do you me. Nothing, busy work, that's all" he responded, smiling as he caressed my cheeks, rubbing them slowly while staring deeply at me... "I missed you, was hell without you" he mumbled to my hearing, while I moved my face away, regretting it for a split second, as I see the hurt in his eyes.

I hesitate. “No,” I admit finally. “Maybe… I don't know.” She sits me down on the bed. “What is it?” I let out a small breath. “I miss him.” Her lips twitch. “Have you spoken to him?” “I mean… yes,” I say, dragging the word out. “He sent a text when I was leaving the hospital. I replied. He was typing, and then… nothing.” Elianna stares at me for a second before she starts laughing.

He asks when I don't respond, and I find myself missing the way he used to say my nickname more than anything. "I guess I surprised both you and myself then," I manage to say eventually. Although he doesn't say anything in response, I can imagine him smirking at my reply. "I don't blame you," he agrees, and a brief silence follows. Then, he says, "I miss you." "I miss you too," I admit. I'd be lying if I said otherwise. "Especially since you decided not to show up before I left for my flight."

He said and I laughed “I miss him even more now” I said and sighed “I know you do.” I put my head on his shoulder and before I knew it I fell asleep

About everything that just happened. “I’m fine,” I said finally, my voice softer than I expected. His grip tightened slightly, just enough for me to notice. “I missed you.” The words came out simple. But they didn’t feel simple. My chest tightened slightly. “I missed this,” he added, his voice lower now. “Missed you.” I swallowed, my eyes lowering. There was something about the way he said it. Not forceful. Not controlling. Just… honest. And that made it harder to ignore.
