Familiar, sugary, sickly-sweet. “Oh, Iris, babe,” Layla cooed near me. “You really thought it’d be that easy?” She crouched beside me as I started to see spots, darkness clouding my vision. I couldn’t move, couldn’t speak. “That was cute,” she whispered. “Let’s try again tomorrow.”

I put my hand over my mouth, praying to the moon goddess that I haven't got lousy morning breath, and mutter, “Bathroom Darius, I need to go to the bathroom.” Darius loosens his hold on me so I can get out of bed; I avert my gaze as the bed sheet slips and smother a groan. Lea purrs louder as she says, “You need to mark him as ours, Layla.”
