I ready myself to be let down, but he doesn't, and the impenetrable metal doors open wide without even a nudge. "......" Okay, so there is a palace within a palace? A sandy trail runs along well groomed gardens to stop at the doors of a castle without walls, made in striking reference to the one in the Underworld and showed hints of modern architecture. Not a soul greets us with its presence as we make way to the almost identical bedchambers and he places me down with a word on the neatly made bed.

Then again, vampires aren’t exactly known for their etiquette. The hallways are dimly lit, and there’s an ever-present dripping sound echoing through the walls. We pass by a few other empty cells that look no different than the one Arthur and I were in, except maybe bigger. We make a few turns and eventually come to a change in the décor of the castle. The floors are black and white marble, and the stone walls are accented with dried plants and rose bushes protruding from the corners of where the walls meet the ceiling. Guards give respectful nods of greeting to Delfino and Edward and then spit at our feet. Robert growls once and Arthur whips around, his eyes like daggers.

I want to shout at them but my body still won't respond. "She has to be, but she will be fine in a few minutes," the bald hulk says. They start walking towards a house. I thought Jace's house was a mansion but this is a castle! The castle is built with old stones of varying shapes and sizes and the flowery vines growing up the walls makes it look like it has been drawn out of a fairy tale. Whoa! Is this real? There is a short man standing at the entrance of the building wearing like ... a butler? Is this some fancy hotel or something.

The aura the Castle emitted was the same as when Darius approached her at the Church. "Move, lady!" One of the guards urged me as the gate was lifted by the men in the tower, and we walked in. They carried me into the Castle, walking down a long hall with different paths by the side leading to other parts of the castle, I guess. The castle walls stood high tall with little numerous windows at the top. They were also carvings of other Alphas, their sword and battle axe on the walls. After a while we took a turn to the left and arrived at what seemed like a deserted room in the Castle.

I swallowed hard. We continued walking. My eyes didn't stop checking out each houses that we passed. We reached the tallest one amongst the houses… a castle. The most beautiful of them all. It was situated right in the center of the compound, as if the other buildings were meant to guard this particular one. Goosebumps washed over me the moment we walked inside. The inside was darker. From the major to the tiniest decorations were dark. Portraits of wolves and demons hung on the walls.

She managed to choke out, trying her best to clear her mind. "Go ahead, Roselle." He encouraged, not taking his eyes off her. "Why… why are the walls here so huge?" Romeo finally averted his gaze and glanced at the walls below them. "They have built these walls long ago when the beasts were still roaming around the Northern Empire." "Beasts?"

"Patrick let himself get captured to serve as the anchor. He knew your pride wouldn't allow you to execute him but to bring him to Valemont." Kael flinched at this brutal truth, but he did'n't protest. "The walls of the castle are impregnable to any frontal assault. But if they have the supporters inside the outer bailey, they will try to make a subterranean breach through the old aqueducts." "Then increase the guards at the water gates and flood the lower sluices," I said, stepping up to the table. "And send the detachment of the royal guards outside the western tower."

If I so much got out of these chains, then Inara would have a one-on-one with Blondie here while I took care of the voodoo bitch. Another loud boom, and this one, much much closer. My soul almost left my body at the rattling sound of a bomb denotating just right outside the room I was locked in. If they shot out another explosive, then these walls would come down at us and none of us would survive. The castle was over five hundred years old for crying out. It would not just be bricks and mortar to come tumbling down, but stones, blood, and souls that died in these very walls.

Tunde finally looked up. Her voice softened, just a little. "The Citadel fixes things, Tunde. Sometimes. But nothing’s free." Tunde leaned back. "I’m not here to sing for your parades." "Not yet," she said. "But the walls don’t just keep people out. They keep people in." Outside the window, the Citadel lights shimmered like a promise and a prison.
