I squealed, knowing she wouldn't be able to resist my blue eyes. “Fine! You don't have to give me those eyes, you know,” she rolled her eyes at me with a soft smile. “The Crystal is like a puzzle, it can only be activated when each piece has come together. That is the more reason it shouldn't have fallen into the wrong hands. You should be thankful your bond with that pendant isn’t broken yet. You and I wouldn't have been having this conversation right now.” She breathed those words, staring into my eyes. “Well, I hope you can now finally allow me to get some good rest now.” She smirked.

The stone is pulsing with a sick, erratic light, shifting from a dull blue to a toxic, oily green.

He pushed himself up onto his good elbow, a sharp grimace of pain tightening his jaw as the movement pulled at his stitched wound. "Come back to bed," he commanded. It was not a request. It was a gravitational pull. Chloe walked back to the edge of the mattress. She held the crystal tumbler out to him. Julian took it, his large hand wrapping around the glass. As he drank, Chloe eyes locked onto the exact placement of his thumb. He was pressing his bare skin directly against the smooth, polished crystal. That glass held the first half of the biometric key she needed to break into the offline ledger.

Mark reached for it, but I clutched the crystal to my chest. "It's private!" In the struggle, the crystal was ripped from my neck. Riven took it and tried to activate it. Nothing happened. "What's wrong with it?" he scowled. "It's sealed," I said, my voice ice. "It requires a key. A memory only we should share." "What memory?" "You've forgotten?" A hollow, cruel laugh escaped my lips.
