She couldn't shake the feeling of being an outcast, a foreign presence in a world that had already accepted someone else as queen. The weight of being a human in a kingdom of shifters made Blair feel like an outsider, destined to be forever on the fringes of acceptance. She questioned whether she would ever be embraced by the people of the kingdom, whether they would ever see beyond her human nature and truly acknowledge the love she shared with Ashier.

Except me. I clutched my books tighter, the weight of being ignored pressing down on me more than usual. The bench felt smaller beneath me, the space between me and everyone else stretching wider. Not that it mattered—I was used to it. An outcast. A foreigner. The invisible presence in a room full of people. Shaking off the sting, I plugged in my earphones, letting a podcast fill the silence. "How would you rate your life on a scale of ten, Ms. Polani?"

I said, softly. “Yeah?” “Why are you always nice to me?” She gave a short laugh. “What kind of question is that?” “I mean it. I am no one. I'm just a young woman, fresh out of college, in a large city, working at a company as an intern until I can make it. The way society treats us is imaginable to the normal mind. Those who choose to stay at home and continue in the cycles that continuously repeat every generation live in a generalized bliss. They never dare to choose the one risk that could make or break a person…to leave. For those of us who want to but can't not only deal with troubles of being different at home, but we do end up taking the chance which leads to the truth for us all… the complete and utter alienation of our identities.

He felt strange and weird, but at the same time, he felt proud of himself because he’s [The One] of his own existence.
