“Who would think to find us here?”
The beach narrowed, giving way to rocky ground that formed a steep slope. Throughout the journey, Boris explained that demons had hunted them across the mainland, and they couldn’t find any peace until they boarded a boat.
“What’s so special about the Isle of Wight, then?” I asked.
“I don’t know,” Boris said from the driver’s seat. “But demons can’t cross the wards.”
“The island is wolf territory,” Griff said. “But it was also a holiday resort. Demons don’t appreciate saltwater, and neither do faeries. The wards around the island repel preternatural vampires, and the witches and mages who come here know not to flash their magic.”
