But somehow, with her, I was losing control all over again. Every damn thing reminded me of her. Even this room, neat, warm, filled with shelves of books. My eyes lingered on the titles stacked perfectly by the wall. Jane Austen. Oscar Wilde. Emily Brontë. She loved those. I could still remember the way she’d sit by the window with a cup of tea, reading for hours. She’d hum softly, sometimes reading out loud lines she found beautiful. And I’d tease her, tell her those old books made no sense but secretly, I liked listening.

I open it with curiosity and I jump up my seat when I realize what it is. “Leopold this is crazy! How did you get this?!” I ask perplexed. “No, it’s not crazy, it’s a present. Do you like it?” Leopold asks amused. “How could I not? Are you kidding? Of course, I do!” I exclaim thrilled. Inside the package, there is a three-volume first edition from 1816 of the novel Emma by Jane Austen. I look at the old books in disbelief. This is an invaluable antique. It must have been extremely expensive and hard to get.

I wanted to read, to do something that reminded me of normalcy. I looked at my growing shelf of books and decided to pick Pride and Prejudice. It was one of my favorite books as I was a sucker for romance novels. I flipped to the first page and began. "It is a truth, universally acknowledged, that a man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife."

Pride & Prejudice is in the public domain; however, giving credit where credit is due, it is the work of the absolutely brilliant Jane Austen. Anything you recognize is hers, the rest is mine. I was required to do well in school, stay pure, which meant don’t hang out with boys, get classes in decorum, dancing, party planning, budget management, and everything else that was really boring to a teenage girl. My parents would fill my schedule, making it impossible for me to maintain friendships, and the only free time I had I would spend reading books. My favorites were romance novels from the 19th century. It was the exact opposite of life inside the Mystic Shadow Pack. Women in Jane Austen’s novels were fully dressed, and even showing an ankle could be scandalous, but here men and women were naked half the time, and other times they were dressed in skimpy clothes. She had read that book more than a hundred times and one thing was for sure she wasn't going to stop reading it. "I just wanted to give you privacy. Jane Austen was one of his favourite authors because she wasn't afraid to write and describe things as she saw them in real life. He smiled because he knew everything the professor was saying. After all, he had already read all her books, maybe twice or more. In order not to waste time, he opened his book; The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.
