I half stood from my seat. “Vivian, this is Joanna. But everyone calls her Anna. We grew up together here during Thanksgiving,” Kai explained while glancing at me. “Nice to meet you,” Joanna said, reaching out her hand. I took it. “Likewise.” Joanna turned her attention back to Kai. “I’m here for a few days. My family’s celebrating Thanksgiving in Bali this year. Just like the old days.” “We have to catch up,” Kai replied, eyes sparkling. I sat in silence, watching their conversation that felt… too familiar.

The realisation hit Jessica harder than expected. Because she remembered that feeling. Remembered it perfectly. One application remained on her desk long after the others had been sorted. "Good morning, Miss Williams." A soft female voice speaks from the other end. "I am Mercy the founder of Women's right association. WRA is an organisation that works to help women that are in abusive marriages and I am reaching out because a friend of mine told me that you might need our help." I stay silent for a long second trying to make out what she just told me.

I approached the cabinet where I keep the files that John handed me before. My hands were shaking as I flipped the page and scanned the details of Angela. Then, I stopped after I read something. Tears were rolling down my cheeks as the papers fell on the floor. I was blankly staring at the wall while the information I had read slowly sank into my head.
