I miss this feeling. I started playing my favorite song, Jamie Duffy- Solas. I was enjoying the sweet melody coming from the piano, but as I was playing, I saw a shadow out of the corner of my eye and immediately stopped playing and turned my head. The person who was standing there was now completely gone. I got up from the stool and went to get my bag and left the classroom. Since I had no other classes to attend, I headed home. On the way, I made sure to stop to get something to eat before heading home.

There was nothing. My heart sank.

Close it again. Nothing comes out. Because the truth is— I don’t know. Not clearly. Not cleanly. Just fragments. Feelings. Pressure. A name that feels like it should mean something more than it does. “I don’t know,” I whisper again. Lena nods slowly, like she expected that. “That’s not nothing,” she says. I laugh once, broken. “It feels like nothing.” She doesn’t argue. Instead, she looks at the letter again. “You’re keeping it?” she asks.

Julien said nothing, but when I looked up he was looking at me with an expression I could not fully decode. It might have been curiosity. It might have been a concern. It might have been that he had noticed I was behaving strangely and was politely declining to say so. I sat up straight and ate my sandwich with dignity.
