His heart thudded the entire way. — At exactly 9 PM, the speaker on the wall chimed to life with a soft ding, followed by the host’s cheerful voice. "It's 9 PM already, and I bet you're all excited to check your mailboxes!" "Since it’s just the first day, and you might not know each other well yet, don’t be discouraged if your box is empty. Finding a partner takes time. So take it slow, have fun, and trust the process!"

"I don't love you anymore. I died once because of you—what makes you think I'd still love you after that? The wedding's off." His eyes widened in shock, pupils shrinking before they grew large again. He was completely stunned. No one else around us knew what I meant when I said I'd "died once", but Byron and I did. And now, he was terrified. Genuinely terrified. "No… Let me explain. I didn't mean for things to go like this. I-I…" He kept talking, stumbling over his words, completely falling apart. But no matter what he said, I wasn't going to believe him.

I clicked on the file and began to work with determination. Suddenly, my hand was in a vice grip. "J-just stop for a second." Shane could not handle it anymore. "Mr. Lawson, what's wrong? I'm really focusing on my work now. You're messing up my flow." The mouse accidentally slipped to the menu bar. Shane collapsed into his chair. "Please, no." I glanced at the mouse. "Mr. Lawson, if I don't finish these files, I'll have to work late tonight."

Leo froze as soon as the words left my mouth. He was stunned to his core. After all these years, that must’ve been the fiercest comeback I’d ever dared to throw at him. He clenched his jaw and nodded in anger, glaring at me as if I’d offended his very being. “If you won’t buy me breakfast, how am I supposed to focus on studying and get into university? “I’ve been starving all morning—how am I supposed to concentrate on anything?” It was almost funny—he remembered what I’d said once.

Staring at the blank screen of his phone, he contemplated on whether he should call her or not. Time passed by and Levi started to feel that he was wasting his time. It was getting late and he was here doing nothing. He thought about the job interview he had tomorrow morning. He knew he had to sleep. He had to. But..... he just couldn’t. Maybe if he could hear her voice it would help?
