89 ANNALISE I stood in the clearing, the remnants of our victory still echoing in my ears, I turned to face Janet. The moment felt monumental, heavy with the weight of our shared past. I had witnessed her strength, her courage, and I knew she was ready to lead the pack into a new future. “Janet,” I began, my voice steady. “I am handing you the leadership of the pack. You are their alpha now. You have the strength and wisdom to guide them.”

But that was hard, seeing as she just sat there looking out of space. I mutter to myself, holding on to the last bit of hope within me. The creaking sound of the door opening startles me, and I look up, expecting to see King Sven. Instead, I'm met with a tall woman with striking onyx eyes and long dark hair entering. She’s draped in fine silks. Her gaze settles on me, her lips painted black curving into a smile that doesn’t quite reach her eyes. “So, you are the cursed one everyone has been whispering about,” she says in a smooth, calculating tone, taking in my appearance with a raised brow. “I am Katniss Whitlock, King Sven’s future Luna.”

I turned to the page where my name was linked to Kaelith’s. “Kaelith Vaeltharion Morveth, I hope you return. I am Vaelora Haugen, waiting for you.”

If not for her, then for me.” Catherina stood radiant and was dressed like a storybook princess. All my dreams had become hers. If Cayden and I had just stopped in to say hi, she would have come and given me a hug, but much like my father, she differentiates between her daughter Scarlett and her Alpha Scarlett. “Alpha Scarlett, Beta Cayden. Is everything okay?” She asks, her big green eyes wide with concern and her chocolate brown hair still slightly damp from a shower. It’s like looking into a mirror and seeing my future self. And I’ll tell you, I could do a lot worse. My mother still turns heads and is still a beast on the sparring fields. I’ve never seen her in an actual battle, but I have no doubt she can still kickass.
