Killing Time Book Novels & Stories

After I had my fill of the cookies and milk, Lachesis, with a snap of her finger, cleared the table and spoke up. ‘’Now down to business’’ She said and snapped a finger and a giant book that covered the whole table. “What’s your name?’’ she asked. ‘’Rose’’ I answered and Hades interjected ‘’ Rose as in as in Rosemary, Rosabelle……?’’

Twelve hours. That’s what the countdown clock says. Twelve hours until Aria arrives. Twelve hours until Evelyn’s ghosts try to kill us. I’m sitting in the penthouse study, surrounded by screens. But I’m not looking at security feeds. I’m looking at a blank page. "It needs a title," my publisher said yesterday over a secure line. She’s fast-tracked the book. The world wants to know the story of the woman who broke the internet and then married it.

Was it only me or the time slowed down? I went through my bag again to check whether I had something else I could do to pass the time. I smiled when I saw the book Shelly gifted me on my birthday, Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid. I opened it from where I had stopped reading last night and continued reading when the book was snatched from my hands. I bit my lip to stop myself from shouting at Jake when he smirked at me while pointed at Mr. Jameson who chose that exact moment to glance up at us.

The teacher said it was on the middle shelf right in the middle row a year, I went to where the teacher told me the books were, sometimes I looked at her because she is wearing shorts that show her legs well, then I asked the teacher a question, I wanted to know if the school had a collection of books and I said the name for her and she told me she did, that's when she asked Kris to show me where the books I wanted are. -Kris, can you show the teacher where the books are, please, then she got up. I fixed the shorts and showed me the wave of the books, at this time I took her hand and looked into her eyes she stood there looking at me, she gaped, It was at this time that I spoke...

I remembered how, when we caught her calling the police, she said with red-rimmed eyes, “I just didn’t want you to die.” I remembered her fists whitened when she read the insults from my mother. I remembered her last glance at me. It was like looking at a group of hopeless fools. She had been right all along. I realized then that it was not about spoiling the fun. It was about keeping me alive. When the dogs lunged at me, I smelled the metallic sweetness of my own blood. For a moment, it was like I was back in that classroom. Zoey was standing in the sunlight. Her white shirt was clean and pure.

I whispered. A fresh wave of nausea hit, memories pushing like claws against the walls of my mind, shadows of a past life I had spent years trying to understand. This book...This book was the answer. This was the ritual Darren used to kill me, to kill my baby, to take power for himself.

But at the end they ended up together and I was happy with that ending. I finished their book in an hour and forty minutes, and I drop it on the table. As soon as I do, Blake picks up the book and he drops Twisted Games. “How long have you been done with the book?” I ask him. “About twenty minutes, I did not want to rush you so I let you finish at your own pace,” he replies.

Popping open the buttons again, I grabbed a random book from the pile and knocked on the door. “Sorry to disturb you, but I seem to have a problem with…” I cast a cursory look at the book I’d grabbed and was appalled to see it was a literature book, “…this book.” He arched his brow. “Time to kill" by John Grisham . I got it because I was told it’s one of the books in this year’s syllabus, even though I wasn’t sure if Literature is one of the subjects you’re interested in. I haven’t read it though, so I might not be of much help.”

" I couldn't help but laugh. I wasn't sure if Mom and Dad had actually lost it, but Alice definitely had. I pulled out my phone and called them to come pick Alice up. "If it weren't for you—if you'd just paid up—there wouldn't be any need for a mortgage!" Dad shouted at Grandma, jabbing his finger at her. Mom tried to calm him down with a hug. "Arguing with them is pointless. They don't even understand what life and death really mean. They're just selfish." Then, she grabbed Alice, trying to pull her away, but Alice yelled, "Well, just take Grandma's bankbook! All her money's ours when she dies, isn't it?"

Zia Stephanie's POV I felt like time begun to lose its meaning. The passage of time felt like it was heavenly distorted where space time worked into different scale on the other dimension. What should only be a few minutes seemed like I had endured dew hours and what might feel like small width of time could be extensive.
