Knight's Sacred Burden

Knight's Sacred Burden

In their left hands, they carried long, heavy halberds. In their right hands, they held something far worse. Large, ornate brass lanterns. But instead of fire, the lanterns contained a pulsing, cold blue light that seemed to swallow the ambient light around them. The air in the alley instantly grew heavy, the constant, low hum in Kael’s head suddenly turning into a deafening, high-pitched shriek. "Ah!" Kael groaned, clutching his temples. His knees buckled, and he crashed to the stones, his heavy body shaking the coal cart. "My head... Julian, the lanterns... they're draining me."

THE LUNA'S RITUAL

THE LUNA'S RITUAL

I pictured those same tits in my hands, her body twisting and moaning while I slapped them until they bounced and turned red. “Mother, what is going on?” Darius asked, snapping me out of the filthy haze. “Haven’t you noticed something strange about your city Luna?” He frowned, glancing between me and his mother. “What is strange?” “She has no scent,” his mother said. “I noticed it yesterday. She is fooling you.” Darius turned to me, “I noticed that too, Lyra. Why don’t you have a scent?” Tears burned at the corners of my eyes. I opened my mouth, but no sound came out.

The billionaire i Married by mistake

The billionaire i Married by mistake

He walked up to the counter where Rose Thirty-Ninth was placing a fresh tray of warm spiced tarts on display. "Good morning, Rose," the artisan said with a warm grin. "The glassworks collective made this lantern for your front entryway. It's designed to refract the hearthfire light right out onto the snow." Rose accepted the gift, her grey eyes shining with quiet gratitude as she held the smooth, brilliant glass. "Thank you, Arthur. We'll set it right on the windowsill where it can shine out into the street."

Two Different Lights

Two Different Lights

For five years, I had stood by my girlfriend as she worked her way from a tiny street stall to a successful chain of stores. Three times, I waited for her to finally give me a home. The first time, she bought a one-bedroom apartment. I packed my bags, ready to move in, only for her to hand the keys to her childhood friend, who had just gone through a divorce. "He's raising his daughter on his own. It isn't safe for them to live somewhere else," she told me. "Just stay with me in the basement for a few more months." The second time, she bought a two-bedroom apartment. I had already bought new sheets and gotten everything ready. Then, by some twist of fate, her childhood friend's apartmen

The Luna's Return

The Luna's Return

My fingers went to my neck again then the smile disappeared. Martha noticed. “Aria.” “I’m trying not to think about it.” I avoided her eyes. “I don’t want everyone staring at me.” “They will for a while.” She said sadly. “Wonderful.” I exclaimed. She sighed. “The pack hasn’t had a Luna in a long time.” I stopped walking. “I know. My mother was the last one.” Martha looked at me. “You see why we need one?” I frowned. “But my father…”

The Ninth Cipher

The Ninth Cipher

One lantern. One Keeper. Every lantern represented someone who had accepted the burden before him. Some glowed brightly. Others had already gone dark. One lantern drifted lower than the rest. Its brass surface gleamed softly. The engraved name caught Adrian's breath. THOMAS VALE Unlike the others... Its flame was still burning. Not fading. Not flickering. Steady. Alive. Adrian stared upward, unable to look away. Then every lantern in the chamber suddenly swung in the same direction...

The Lighthouse at Black Hollow

The Lighthouse at Black Hollow

Symbols faintly glowed along the brass frame—spirals and wave-like markings she had never seen before. “Those weren’t there,” she whispered. “They reveal themselves to each keeper,” Alden said. The air inside the lantern room felt heavier now, humming faintly. Like the inside of a seashell pressed to the ear. “What is it?” she asked. “That thing.” Alden hesitated. For the first time, uncertainty crossed his face. “We called it the Drowned One.” Mara swallowed. “That’s not a real answer.” “It is the only one I have.”

BLOOD TIE AND BROKEN VOWS

BLOOD TIE AND BROKEN VOWS

A new peace had settled, not fragile anymore, but firm like old stone. High above, in the courtyard of the palace that now served as both seat of power and home, glowing lanterns floated skyward one by one. Hundreds of them. Like fireflies ascending to the stars. Each carried the name of someone lost along the way—friends, enemies, family, traitors, lovers. Every light a story.

TIME TO FALL IN LOVE

TIME TO FALL IN LOVE

[The Lighthouse of Legacy] The air inside the lighthouse lantern room was still, holding the cool, dry scent of ancient parchment and the lingering ozone of the sea. Outside, the great glass panes offered a 360-degree view of the Atlantic, where the waves churned in ink-black swells under a blanket of stars. But Jinyan and Panni weren't looking at the horizon. They were looking at each other, the golden star on the map between them acting as a final seal on their past.

The Lost Pack

The Lost Pack

It’s the perfect mix of mine and Paige’s. Behind us, Callen is stringing lanterns through the branches, each one flickering to life in a soft golden glow in the dimming light. “The lanterns are all set,” he calls down, sounding pleased with himself. “They will guide her straight here.” “Good,” I answer, though my mind is already racing to the next detail. Remy crouches near the new candles he’s just set down, shielding a match from the breeze. He mutters something under his breath about the wind direction and making sure nothing goes out.

Loving this book so far! Author, as many have stated in the chapter comments, 291 & 292 are repeat chapters from 283 & 284. Though I do believe they should be at 291/292 (makes more sense) and not 283/284.
