When Layla’s eyes opened again, she was in unfamiliar territory. She kicked her shoes against each other, trying to get rid of the grasses that had stuck by the sides and she wondered if that was how the moon goddess’s marble journeys always worked. To her, it had only been a minute or even less, but she knew that if she had taken the normal route, it would have been longer.

It wasn't fair to Mia to be so distant for the last week and then call her in the ungodly hours of the morning to drop these burdens on her. But she had to do something. With a sigh, she looked around her room for a moment. The quiet, gloomy space threatened to overwhelm her. That's when her eyes landed on the book about vampires she'd loaned from the library all those weeks ago. Something clicked in her mind. Standing from the bed, she stalked to her desk and powered up her laptop before sitting down. Pulling the heavy book into her lap, Layla started to flip through it. Elena POV The chains around my wrists rattled with every jolt of the carriage. Iron cuffs bit into my skin, leaving bruises that would probably never fade. They weren’t silver, but I was still trapped. Shackled. The wooden floor shook beneath me as the horses dragged us closer to Crescent Blood Kingdom, the home of the quadruplet alphas. The kings. My throat tightened. Everyone whispered about them in fear, as if even saying their names might summon them. Four brothers born under the Blood Moon. Four alphas sharing one throne. Together, they ruled the largest werewolf empire in existence.

Queen Emris asked as tears began to fill her eyes. “I’m pretty certain I do.” says my mom. “I would have to go back to the pack house to get my books and a few items that I need to break the spell. I could be back as quickly as tomorrow morning,” she says. I didn’t realize that it was nighttime, as in Layla’s mind it was still extremely sunny out. I can't even imagine the torment she must feel, knowing that someone is listening and watching her, and the sun never goes down. She’s a child of the moon goddess, and her lycan needs to be under the moon sometimes.

Like her, they would get their wolves and maybe, if the Moon Goddess willed it, find their mates. Her mind settled on Damon, and her heart fluttered at the mere idea of him being her mate. But she quickly dismissed the thought, knowing it was just a foolish dream. She and Damon could never be mates. That would be a silly match from the Moon Goddess herself. A knock on her door got her attention, and she went to open it. She was surprised to see Luna Anita standing there with a mini chocolate cake in her hand, a big smile on her face. “Happy eighteenth birthday, Amara,” she said warmly, her voice filled with genuine affection.

I remember how I felt sometimes - lonely, trapped, missing my Star Twin and my life on earth, longing and waiting for the Crescent Child to come and retrieve me. But I don’t remember much more. I don’t know what sorts of things the Moon Rabbit made me do, or how I filled my time in captivity with him. Layla thinks there might be some sort of secret hidden within those lost memories, something we can use to help me and to finally defeat Coello. So I’m trying to remember. Layla keeps finding these ancient or obscure books about Star Twins, and lunar beings, and deals with the Moon Rabbit. She wants me to read them, to see if anything sparks a memory inside me. So far nothing has, but I’m doing

crying out in pain. Em reached back to touch whatever had made her fall. But when she felt what was in the floor .: her heart stopped. A body. “Oh god .. oh god ..” she said. Turning to try and stand again .. she found that she was at a wall. A glass wall. And when she raised her eyes she could see it was a window. Some light was filtering through. But something was blocking most of it. It was the moon .. a full moon. The moonlight was coming in through the window and making the room lighter.

I watched the moon grow fatter through the mouth of the cave, counting the days until the inevitable. Then came the night of the Blood Moon. It hung in the sky like a bruised eye, fierce and alluring. This was the night the Moonlight Howl went feral. It was the peak of the heat cycle, a time when the pack’s inhibitions dissolved into a chaotic blur of lust. Normally, I would have been in the Moonlight Hall, locked in Ahri’s arms. But even with the bond shredded, the connection hadn't fully dissolved. The Moon Goddess was playing a cruel game.

Lyra I arrived at the Luna's house just as the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a soft golden hue across the hills. The evening air was cool, carrying the scent of pine and earth, Calista's favorite, I thought, as I walked up the gravel driveway. This is because I perceive this scent more than others here.
