Renee The previous night, Lennox and Louis had gone out to participate in the evening games but since I was too tired to leave, Levi stayed behind with me. Somehow, he figured out that his presence made me uncomfortable but instead of leaving, Levi took me aback by making me coffee and taking out a book. Before I could tell him that I wasn't interested in him reading me a book, his low and soothing voice changed my mind immediately because not only did it melt my heart, it made the tension between us disappear.

This one looks like he’d pick up the drawing board and re-strategize. Levi smiles suddenly in a way that is clear and sharp, gleaming with amusement as he speaks, “Well, well, well. Look who finally decided to crawl out from under Christian’s desk.” I don't understand what that would mean, but I don't care. I just know I'm not going to take any kind of taunting from Levi, so I immediately fire back, "It's a good thing to see you're still stalking me. First day on the job and you know already—good for you."

Chapter Sixteen — Steady Ground Levi's POV Levi had spent most of his adult life preparing for worst-case scenarios. He built contingency plans for boardroom pushback, stress-tested financial models against sudden market crashes, and mentally rehearsed the quiet devastation of the day someone he cared about would inevitably walk away. DELIA I finally knocked on the door and when I heard a reply, I opened the door and walked inside. Levi's head was buried inside a book. I felt like crying. A few weeks back, he was lying almost lifeless but there he was, stronger and healthier. All thanks to the almighty for sparing his life. "Hi," I said. He must have thought I was a nurse or a doctor and that's why he didn't bother to check. But after I made my entrance recognizable by speaking, he looked away from his book.

My list was almost like training for the real thing. We were both busy on our phones as they pinged with the messages being sent and I finally gave my phone to Levi. He sat there for maybe an hour and read through everything that Jules had sent me. I nursed the glass of whiskey in front of me and waited for him to say something. “Well fuck me,” Levi said finally and it was the first time I had ever heard him swear. “Do you understand now?” I asked him as he looked at me. “Geez kid, yeah, I get it,” he said to me.

Up in Leesa’s room, Dral took up his familiar position lounging against the wall beside the door while Rave sat down on the bed “What now?” Rave asked as Leesa pulled off her parka and hung it in her closet. Leesa grabbed her backpack and pulled out Dominic’s book. “Now this,” she said. She sat down next to Rave and opened the book on her lap. Once again, she was surprised by how little the oversized book weighed.

“When I gave the book one last tug, it must have released it from whatever was keeping it hidden and the momentum sent it flying towards my face.” “You took quite the hit from this book.” Levi teases, picking the book up from the desk. He moves his hand up and down, weighing the book in his hands. “Hefty little thing.” He comments, winking at me. I roll my eyes at his teasing, gracing him with a small smile. “Don’t make me mad or I’ll beat you with that ‘hefty little thing’.” I tell him sweetly, a delighted smile spreading across my face. Levi beams at me, amusement dancing in his eyes.

LEVI Levi slammed the door to his room in anger as he made his way over to the mini-bar. He needed something to drink to calm his nerves after what had just happened. He couldn't actually believe that Alexa had spoken to him rudely and to make matters worse, she acted as if what she did was okay and she totally didn't care if he was the alpha of the pack or not. He picked a bottle of alcohol from the rack and poured himself a half filled glass before he took a long sip, feeling the liquid burn down his throat.

There's something I have to confirm, something I’ve always suspected that I have to confirm. I go to the reading arena, where she always sits, watching her as she muffles her laughter, joking with Roxie. I badly want to hear the joke. Knowing the both of them, they're probably laughing about what Roxie heard or something they both saw. I've been in their circle well enough to know that's how it usually goes. They were doing everything but reading whenever they came to the library. A hand taps my shoulder. I turn back to see it's Levi, my right hand man. He's a friend that helps me with even the smallest task. He's the only person I don't have to fake a smile for.

“I’ll give you my phone and you can order anything you like on the way home. You do remember that we do have people at the house that can cook for her.” “Yes, but I like to cook for her, and I also enjoy cooking.” “Just get your clothes on, so we can get going.” He turns his back to me as if he didn’t want to look at me anymore and he starts looking through his phone. I get dressed as fast as I could so we’re able to get back home. After I get my clothes on that I follow Levi to his car which looked to be a 2021 black Acura mdx and as soon as we get in my eyes couldn’t believe all the toys this SUV has in it. I was so in aww that I didn’t even notice that Levi was trying to hand me his phone
