The world was shut out, leaving only the soft, ambient glow of floor-to-ceiling city lights and the low hum of high-level decryption hardware running across three monitors on the massive teak desk in the library. ​Lily pulled the pins from her dark hair, letting it tumble in loose, midnight-black waves down over her shoulders. She shed her sharp corporate blazer, kicking off her tight pumps, and stood in her thin white silk camisole and tailored black trousers. "It’s my secret plan," Lilly grinned. Carter leaned forward, resting his elbows on the island. "There's that art gallery downtown too. Local artists. Could be nice to walk through."

She shook her head quickly, grabbed her satchel, and pushed past me. “I can’t… not right now,” she whispered, and slipped out the door. Rows of towering shelves loomed overhead, their shadows stretching long in the morning light. Most students avoided this place unless forced to study—it was too heavy, too solemn, like the books themselves were watching you. I liked it that way. Quiet meant I could think.

Skyla gasps, clutching her throat as she stares at the dagger and whispers, “I have seen that before.” I frown, looking at her, and ask, “Where?” A sly smile crosses her face as she stands and walks over to one of the bookshelves; her hand rests on an old leather-bound book; she takes it off the shelf and brings it over to me. When she sits back down, she murmurs, “In this book.” Lilly enters the library, saying, “You wanted to see me, Lisha?” I nod and look over my shoulder at her,

Jim replied as he watched his boss head out the door. Sam walked through the maze of corridors and then went down via the stairs to the ground floor of the house. He walked toward the east wing and then went in through a door. He saw Lilly reading her favorite children’s book, the Sacred Sword series by Anna Chan. “Hey,” he said. Lilly lifted her head, a smile plastered on her cute face. Noting him, she threw the book to one side, rushed off the sofa, and raced into his wide-open arms.

I do care about Lorcan; he just doesn’t realise it. “Listen, you’re never going to find an answer to this problem. You won’t because there isn’t one. Lilly has great power, enough to pull her mate into her subconscious. I once read in a book back home, in the Library Pavilion,” Which is restricted! No one can enter the library pavilion without the King’s permission. Not that that has ever stopped Lorcan from doing whatever the hell he wants.
