A knock at the door pulled me from my thoughts. I looked up and saw Lily Cross, standing there, wearing that soft, calculated smile. She exuded the gentle, yielding aura of an Omega, tinged with a practiced sweetness that seemed designed to charm. "Scarlet," she said softly. "I just finished reporting to the Alpha. He seemed a little down and said he wanted to go out for a drink. I wanted to check with you. Would it be okay if I went with him?"

Her heart was probably racing, thinking the basketball star was finally opening up to her. Across the table, Lila was doing the same with Marcus. She kept touching his arm, laughing at everything he said, her hazel eyes bright and hopeful. She had no idea she was just a pawn. She thought Marcus was finally showing real interest again. Her heartbeat was probably doing the same fluttery thing Whitney’s was.

Lily “What a beautiful night… It’s truly beautiful,” Lily comments calmly. “Come on, we have to find somewhere we can get transportation or hide until Nick comes for us.” Distracted for a moment by my sister, I move toward the street, trying to figure out which way we should go, leaving Eva standing there looking at the Moon, as if that beautiful night is giving her the calm she lost because of those damned creatures that came to attack us. “Lily?” Eva suddenly asks, her voice choked.

I asked, nodding toward the rabbit. "My daughter's. She refuses to go anywhere without it. Which means I refuse to go anywhere without it, because if she wakes up in the middle of the night and Bunny isn't there..." Detective Cross shook her head. "World War Three." I almost smiled. "How old is she?" "Five." She pulled onto the main road. "Her name is Lily. She's going to be thrilled to meet you. I've told her all about the brave girl I've been working with."

Lily stretched out her arms, fluttering like a butterfly on the soft flower bed. "Stop." Suddenly, with a loud scream, Elias pulled Lily's arm from the flowers. Lily couldn't help but look at Elias in surprise. He quickly explained: "Do you see those yellow flowers?" Lily nodded, and Elias continued to explain: "It's a carnivorous flower. If you touch it lightly, it can eat a piece of your flesh." Lily took a few steps back in fear. Venn looked at Lily's expression and laughed. Lily didn't understand why the two of them were laughing, but feeling like she was being tricked, she turned around angrily and walked forward.

Across the small clearing, Lily didn’t even glance up from where she sat cross-legged in the grass, sketching in her journal with a stick dipped in berry juice. “They’ve been like this for over an hour,” she said flatly. We both turned to stare at her. “How long have you been here?” I asked. She calmly licked her finger and smeared a little more berry over a page. “Long enough to map out the argument arc. You peaked somewhere around the ‘mossy death trap’ and it’s been downhill since.” Aya flopped onto a sun-warmed rock like a wilting fern. “I need a new partner in tag.”

Cayd continues, then looks up at Buppig. “Exactly the same,” he says, jumping up and racing to the ladder. He’s climbing to the top when Lily walks in. “How’s it going?” “My Queen, have a seat. Alpha Cayden, show her,” Buppig says, his excitement evident. “What is it?” Lily says, as excited as Buppig is. Cayd points to the part in the book that Buppig was reading and reads the passage from my book as Lily’s eyes get wider and wider.

Lacy said pointedly. "Really? I wonder what he would think of Mrs. Lacy Lacrosse?" Lily threatened, grabbing the little book from the drawer of her sister's old desk. Lacy looked at her with a horrified expression. "You wouldn't," she cried before jumping at Lily. She reached for the little pink journal with Lacy Lacrosse written all over it. Lily dodged her and then grinned. "I think I just might," she said smugly and raced out of her sister's room and down the stairs.

THE NEXT DAY MORNING Lily walked down the stairs with the book in her hand, she had just a few pages left and she couldn't wait to be done. She got to the living room and paused as she read a paragraph. She was done reading the paragraph and she looked up to see Axel staring at her. He was dressed casually but it looked like he was about to leave the house. “Axel.” Lily called with a smile and walked towards him. “Good morning.” She greeted him with a smile.

He saw Lily going out and followed her. Lily decided to go home. She was crossing the road to hail a taxi but was so lost in her thoughts she didn't hear the vehicle honking at her. Derrick called out to her but she didn't hear. Bang! Lily only saw a bright light and darkness covered her vision.
