After drinking half a bottle of red wine, she went to bed. In the middle of the night, she felt as if something by the bed was staring at her intensely. “Evelyn, return my life… return my life…” Cindy used a voice changer, and in the pitch-black night, her voice was eerie to the extreme. The four little ones were hiding in the living room. Terry trembled, saying, “...So scary.” Mark held Terry’s hand to comfort him. “Don’t be afraid, Terry. I’m here. Let’s go set the trap.”

For a long moment there is nothing. Then— “Goldilocks…” A tiny whisper. The softest voice. The one I thought I lost forever. I exhale shakily, knees weak. She’s back. “Red,” I breathe, reaching for her. She turns toward me — and her eyes fill with pure horror. “Red, I—” I reach to touch her cheek. “DON’T TOUCH ME!” She screams and curls deeper into her friend’s arms. Like she’s hiding from a monster. “Go away!”

“No, you didn’t. I remember, and I appreciate that. But… you must know that with the lights on, even this small lamp, you’ll be able to see how hideous I truly am.” She’s shaking her head as if she can’t believe it, so I feel compelled to describe myself. “Have you ever read those children’s books, meant to horrify young people not to go into the woods at night, that talk about werewolves?” “Yes.” She sits up straight in her chair, leaning in.

Sydney flashed me a grin, "I'm learning how to read." "Oh, is that so?" Silas teased, "You're going to have to read me bed time stories from now on instead of me reading them to you." Sydney pouted her bottom lip, shaking her head vigorously, "No..." She drawled, "you have to still read me stories with momma. Tonight we can read Red Riding Hood." "You know I'm not a fan of that story. They kill the wolf at the end," Silas frowned, "You never kill a wolf Sydney, not unless they've done something completely unforgivable, you hear me?"

Another howl fills the forest. "Come out Little Red, I can smell you down there!" I stifle a whimper as I imagine my own impending death, waiting for this beast to have his prey. I don't move, I am frozen in place. "I will come down there Red, you reek of fear, so tender" he threatens. I hear him move. Looking out from under my arms I see him stood there watching and stalking slowly towards the bushes where I am. I close my eyes as he is within pouncing distance.

And Marie hopped on the bus. The ride went on for hours, but it still wasn’t long enough. On the final leg of the journey, she found herself glancing longingly at the countryside, at the other passengers, at anything that she could think about wistfully. She did not want to be where she was going to be. She didn’t want to see the original monster. Marie carried a tiny scrap of red hoodie that the police said she could have. It was cut out of the original and hemmed neatly around the edges. No fraying. No sawing of blood and bone and fabric and darling little girls.

Garin was feeling strange after reading the history of the Red Hoods. While it was compelling, much of it just felt…wrong. They painted shifters in such a brutal, fierce light which he had never seen in Willow. She was gentle and kind, not the bloodthirsty, baby-eating beasts that were described therein.

I am glad he isn't making fun of me. “I thought you said you weren't scared, little wife?” He asks. "I..I.." I stutter. The truth is that I am scared of ghosts and most especially, clowns. “That was a lie," I say truthfully, feeling really disappointed in myself. "I just wanted to impress you, I'm sorry.” I hear him sigh and feel embarrassed. Just as I am about to say something, a red-eyed, evil clown pops out from a box, scaring the hell out of me! They don't look robotic, they look really real! They are slowly approaching us, baring their sharp, elongated fangs at us.

It was very tall and scary, with eyes that had a spooky red glow in the moonlight. Our eyes connected for just a second, and a strong feeling of fear swept over me.

I remember rubbing my arms, and that's when my sight fully returned. I looked down, only to notice that I was rubbing blood on my arms. I felt so scared as I stared at my red, trembling hands. I sensed something, so I turned my head from side to side, but discovered that I was alone. Alone in the dark woods in the dead of the night. Then I heard a group of unfamiliar voices. A tall, burly man cautiously approached me as if he feared me. I was a three-year-old little girl alone in the woods, covered in blood. What is there to fear?
