Whitney and Caleb had postponed their wedding, so Janine no longer felt rushed. She stayed in Hesterfield for a while longer, finishing up work there before heading to a small town in the lower reaches of Karaland. The place was extremely remote—non-staff members weren't even allowed in. In fact, it was so obscure that it was hard to find even on a map. All the facilities were still under construction; calling it desolate would not be an exaggeration.

Fear was creeping in again, wrapping itself around my throat and squeezing. Stamford road wasn't just lonely. It was isolated. The kind of place where you could scream and no one would hear you. The village had a chapel for respawning, several buildings where different NPCs live with unique occupations, a decorative potato field that players were not able to use or interact with and a wandering merchant that gave the player’s main quests.

It was after eight when we got back to Harden, and the dinner crowd had died down, not that there was much of one in this town. Most of the places to eat were fast food, and the few real restaurants only opened on weekends. I pulled into the parking lot of Starla's Diner, better known as the Diner to the locals.
