Hazel POV The safe house had become our strange new reality. Days passed in a quiet rhythm that felt both comforting and suffocating. Mom spent long hours in the garden, her hands deep in the rich soil as she coaxed flowers back to life. She said the work reminded her of better times, before Dad left and money became a constant worry. Lucas had claimed the game room as his own, spending hours rebuilding his strength on the expensive equipment. He laughed more now, but the bruises on his face and ribs were still fading reminders of how fragile our safety really was.

I snuggle into his arms and relax. After a while Liam turned on the TV he have in the bedroom, and started a comedy on N*****x called “The Ugly Truth" it’s a fun movie and we both laugh so much that we don’t hear when the door into this TV room before we hear his mothers voice. “Liam, you here?” I panic. What if she sees me. Liam notices and stands up. “One-sec mom.” He leaves the room only shutting it so it’s only cracked open.

That sure sounded like mom. Taking the granola, I sprinkled it on top, making it look like a giant heart in the middle. Max came down from the stairs and startled them. "Sshhh ... let's go to the couch, act normal," her mom pushed them away. "Is that him?" Max was curious and tried to take a peek. His mom pulled his hand and dragged him to the couch, "Yeah ... I think so, just sit here." The bell rang. Her mom walked over to the door and opened it. "Hi ... is Hazel here?" Lee greeted her at the door. "Hi ... yes she is ... she's upstairs actually ... you must be Lee?" she extended her hand to him.

“What did you say honey?” Mom asked, still distracted with her favourite show,‘Miss Glasshorn of the year’. “I need to talk about something, with you and Dad.” I murmured looking down at my feet. Riley was busy scrolling through her phone but at my low voice, she looked up and raised her left brow at me in question. Even Mom got the hang of the situation and muted the television. But before Mom could ask me anything, Dad entered the house with his apron still tied around his waist.

I stared at the screen then groaned and hurried down the hallway. By the time the doorbell rang, the apartment smelled like garlic and tomato sauce. I opened the door. Lizzy stood there with the same confident posture she’d always had, one hand on her hip. Behind her, Mom stood with her purse tucked under her arm, smiling softly. “There he is,” Mom said warmly. “Hi, Mom.” I stepped forward and hugged her carefully and Lizzy watched us with an amused expression. “You didn’t poison anything yet, right?” she asked.

she points at me, “have been keeping this a secret?” I shrug. “Yeah, for obvious reasons.” Amelia shakes her head, laughing. “Oh, this is gold. This is better than anything I could’ve hoped for.” Rook grins, nudging me with his elbow. “I think they’re fans.” I scowl. “They’re fucking annoying.” Louise smirks. “We learned from you.” Before I can snap back, the door swings open, and my mom steps inside, rubbing her temples like she already regrets whatever she’s about to walk into.

He encounters his mother and father in the living room downstairs, engaged in a conversation. "Good evening, Mum and Dad," he warmly greets his parents as he enters the house. Liam hands his briefcase to Nora before leaving their mansion and returning to the quarters. "Hey there, how was your day at work, kiddo?" His mother greets him with a warm hug, as she always does, and asks Liam how he's doing. "Okay, Mom," Liam replies with a deep breath, causing his mother to release him from their embrace and study his expression.
