Elara stood over Serenity. Her breathing was steady, too steady for someone who had just struck another human being... A teenager at best. It wasn’t the breath of someone acting on impulse. It was the controlled inhale of someone who had reached the end of their patience long before their hand ever moved. Her eyes burned. Not with rage but also with something far worse... Something cold. Serenity was on the floor beneath her, one hand pressed against her cheek, her eyes wide and glassy with shock, her body trembling as if her mind still hadn’t caught up with the reality that had just shattered her sense of superiority.

Just as she was about to trace her path back, a water body caught her attention. The image of the moon reflected on the surface, mesmerizing Serenity. There was a silhouette standing in front of the lake. The breeze blew the long, untied hair, and Serenity’s heart stopped for a second, recognising him. His side profile had her in a daze for a moment.

Serenity had pushed her enough, and finding authority in Ember's words, Serenity clenched her jaw. Suddenly, Serenity's eyes caught sight of the hickey on Ember's neck, a mark left by Ivan. Seeing it shattered Serenity's heart into a million more pieces. "For him, you're nothing but a slut, and I am disgusted with you, Ember," Serenity exclaimed. With that, she spat on Ember's face, causing Ember to close her eyes in disgust. This feeling of disgust was nothing compared to the loss of dignity and respect. Ember felt immense humiliation.
