RED INK EP 17: THE ACT OF TYING A KNOT • • The mansion was huge, made of marbles, limestone and gravels. This gave it it's colour as it wasn't painted, making it a stone house from the outside. It stood full height, about one-third of a land mass that could take four minutes drive from the house to the gates. The compound was that wide and far. There were two golf carts on the land used to move around from one course to the other. Aside those two vehicles, there was a garage close to the mansion where cars were parked. The compound was also covered with trees, flowers and shrubs. It was an old beautiful house.

“Now!” They struck together — Killian’s shadows driving into the creature’s heart while Daryl’s blades cut deep into its glowing veins. For a moment, the snow lit up with both colors — red and blue — before the thing collapsed in a heap of stitched flesh. Killian stood over it, panting. “You’ve been carrying blood magic this whole time.” “Not just any blood magic,” Daryl said. His tone was different now — measured, careful. “That vial came from Varrow’s own reserves.”

“do not read your own book—you might not like how it ends.” Glancing further up the case, the letter ‘G’ was carved in deeply. I scanned the books with my eyes and found myself reading the names that were painted on the spines of the books. Glenda Macon, Gregory Marsh, Gwyn Masters… Each book had a name embroidered on the spine. The books were all black, with names in a flat white. Very few books actually looked different from the others. The one named, Glenda Macon, had a rose with thorns dancing along the cover. I even noticed one that was a shade of slate grey.

I asked. Mhairi broke into a broad grin before getting out of the bed and hurrying away. A minute or so later she reappeared, a thick paperback in her hands, the pages uneven and yellowed and the spine lined from use. She placed it in my hands, the artwork on the front of a fire-breathing dragon. “This is one of the biggest authors in the genre at the moment. And one of the few who still does printed books.” I stroked my hands over it before opening it up, grinning from ear to ear as well.

At the end of a long black ribbon that was glued within the binding of the book was an octagon shaped crystal that measured one and one-half inches in length and one inch in diameter. Thinking the crystal looked out of place, she couldn’t resist asking Maggie about it. Maggie simply shrugged her shoulders and said it had been part of the book since before her birth and the birth of her mother. She assumed it was what helped keep the magic within the pages. Tara marveled over how much loving care Maggie displayed as she dexterously turned the pages until she found the section she sought.

He gave me a teasful smirk. "Yeah I do, couldn't get enough of you last time ". Of course it was Mason Grey I was trying to flirt with! he literally has all games you could think of! I ignored what he said and took my shirt off. "Let me guess, you have no tattoos because of your family?". All of the books in this section were pay books and Steven told her that these books were sealed just like their special technique books so they must be similar. As he grabs the orange books, he feels the hard cover and runs his hand on the embossed title – The Darkest Minds. He notices a weird symbol on its cover, it doesn’t seem to be out of the ordinary. A book has got to have an interesting cover, hasn’t it? As he opens the cover to explore its pages, something falls out – it was a bookmark. He picks it up from the floor and he presses it at the very back of the book to lessen the chance of it falling again. He feels the pages and one can tell how expensive the printing must be on this book. It doesn’t feel like ordinary paper. Every moment they'd shared, every word they'd spoken, every touch that had passed between them, all of it would have to go. I reached for a vial of ink made from ash of burnt love letters. The liquid was black as midnight and warm to the touch, as if it held the heat of all the passion it had once recorded. When I dipped my quill into it, the ink seemed to writhe like a living thing. The first symbol I drew on the parchment began to smoke immediately. The paper hissed as if in pain, tiny flames licking at the edges of each line. This was old magic, dangerous magic, the kind that demanded a sacrifice for every word.
